Mission: Secrets
On:
Marius was exhausted and knew that there would be no sleep in the near future, at least for himself. The abduction of Admiral Bradley had him shaken, and along with his worry he was filled with anger and frustration. The idea that they had been so powerless against this new enemy...all while dealing with a war that was increasingly deadly was overwhelming and threatened to overtake them all.
"Damn it all," he cursed bitterly under his breath, and pushed away from his desk, striding the short distance to the window and stared out at the void.
Tom had been asked to go to the Obsidian. The Synthulans were back and they had taken Chris Bradley. He was good friends with Chris and his wife Dakota. He had met them when Chris had him start working on the Synthulan research and it went from there. Being known as the go to guy with the Synthulans, Tom had done a lot of research from prior videos and feeds he had seen and evidence they had left behind when they first showed up.
He had dropped off his bag in the room that would be his quarters and made his way to where the Captain was so he could check in and waved his hand at the sensor so it would chime for him.
Marius' head whipped around when he heard the sensor chime, and paused a moment to straighten his uniform and compose himself before speaking.
"Enter," he called.
Tom Ryan walked in the room. "Captain Pontmercy? My name is Tom Ryan. A pleasure to meet you, though the circumstances aren't the best. I've heard a lot about you." Pontmercy shook the man's hand and then motioned for him to sit.
"I appreciate that, Doctor. Unfortunately, given the secrecy of your work, I cannot say the same. Admiral Tabolt actually referred you." He sighed. "Obviously we have to work quickly, but with how little my crew knows of their enemy...it is going to be difficult. Hopefully that's where you come in. What can you tell me?"
"The Synthulans are tough. Very technologily sound. They reminded me of the Borg. But the Borg's weakness was easy to spot. With these, it's very hard, but it's the same idea. My group has only been able to disable one group of Synthulans ever. And that was pure luck. We were able to disable their communications which left them very lost. We then were able to get onto their ship and put a virus into their system which made them vunerable and their self healing abilities were damaged. But the next ship we found, had already adapted for the virus so we have been working on another one. My team has been working on the parts from a Synthulan we were able to keep from that ship, so we are getting more information as time goes by." Tom said. "If you have a research lab here that is empty, we can bring everything here and continue here. With your permission of course." Marius nodded.
"Of course. Our Marine Commander, 1st Lieutenant Thrace, is working on a mission to retrieve the Admiral. I would ask that you meet with her and offer assistance. As for a research lab, our Science department should have what you need."
"Of course. I'll check in with them both." Tom said. He looked at Marius. "How is Dakota... Admiral Olvera doing?" Marius sighed deeply, his concern showing on his face.
"I mean she is a strong woman, for sure... but she is holding up as good as can be expected. His nephew is also serving here, I am glad that they have each other during this time. I am sure she will be glad to see you."
Tom nodded. "That's good to know that he is here." Tom straightened and looked at Marius. "The Sythulans are dangerous. We've been working on trying to get some sort of in with them. There is no hive like the Borg. No Queen. They never stay in the same place long enough. But for them to come back. That means they are very interested. But Chris is strong. He'd rather die than give up anything. What interests me, is that of all the technology they have, they can't just read his mind."
"That is interesting. If they have no leader, or at least not like the Borg, than the question is who is giving them orders?" Pontmercy stood, obviously exhausted. "Hopefully, with you here, we will get the answers we need, and the Admiral back."
"They have a guy in charge. But not like the Queen where they get all their information from her or him or them." Tom looked at Marius. "I promise to do everything I can to help you all. I can see how exhausted you are. "
"That is the nature of the game," Marius said with a small smile. "I appreciate it, Doctor."
"Yes sir. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to grab my things and get set up in a lab. Some of my team will be joining me. First however, I do want to visit the Admiral." Tom said. Pontmercy waved his hands towards the door.
"Oh yes, please do. Thank you for meeting with me, doctor. Let me know if you need anything," he said in dismissal.
"Oh, one more thing Captain. Just so you are aware, I am Chris' Personal physican as well when he is on Earth so I will try and help out there too."
"Well it seems that you should meet with Doctor Hemsley then, and perhaps you have some insight that she will need. Have a good day, Doctor."
