Mission: Secrets
On:
"Coffee, black," Marius ordered and he heard the replicator begin to materialize his beverage. With a sigh of relief he took a sip, feeling the caffeine making it's way into clearing up his dulled senses. Walking back to his desk, he took out a padd glanced at the name and then tapped his comm badge.
"Ensign Dale, please report to my ready room."
Maddy had just about finished her daily run when she got the call and proceeded to add a little more distance to it by jogging to the nearest turbolift and taking it up to Ops, all the while continuing to jog on the spot, making her way over to the ready room door she pressed the button and took a deep breath, she wasn't used to being in the same room as senior staff, sure she'd been in the odd briefing but she'd not been summoned by the Captain before. "You wanted to see me Captain?" she asked once the doors opened.
"I did Ensign," Marius said as he greeted the woman. "I appreciate you getting here so quickly. Please have a seat"
Maddy, somewhat nervously on account of feeling like the school kid summoned to the principal's office, made her way over to the seat and sat down to see exactly what the Captain wanted with her.
Marius, noting her discomfort, chuckled.
"Relax Ensign, you're not in trouble," he assured her. "I wanted to see how you were doing after the past few days, and how your department was handling everything."
"As well as can be expected." Maddy said "As far as I'm aware sickbay's working optimally and I'm sure we'll all take the time we need to process what's happened when we're out of harms way. Personally I'm looking over medical notes from Voyager's journey so I know what to expect out there."
"That's a good idea," Marius said. "That's going to be extremely helpful when we arrive there. Have you found anything interesting?"
"It's more looking over and developing techniques and theory to deal with things that I suspect will come up." Maddy said smiling slightly "I've worked with Charlotte Thrace long enough to know how she thinks and if anyone's going to knowingly create a situation it's her and I don't mean in a bad way." she took a moment "Based on Voyager's notes we're likely not going to be the most advanced species in medical terms, that will I assume still be the Vidiian's and interestingly the Vidiian's do owe Starfleet a bit of a favour."
"Anything you can find to help us cash in on that would be greatly appreciated," the Captain said. "Listen, Ensign. I've been hearing some great things about you.... You work well under pressure, you're a problem solved, and team player. You have several glowing reviews. I just wanted to say that I appreciate your hard work."
"Thank you sir." Maddy said. Marius nodded.
"How long have you been in Starfleet, Ensign?"
"Just over five years at this point sir." Maddy said.
"And in that time, you have served admirably." He stood, pulling something out of his desk drawer, and crossing over to the Ensign. He motioned for her to stand. "Normally this would be done by your department head, but I wanted to do the honors. Ensign, for your dedication and assistance in the war, as well as the Synthulan massacre, it is my privilege to promote you to Lieutenant Junior Grade." He smiled, and handed her the box, from which he withdrew the pup, and carefully added it to her uniform.
"Thank you sir." Maddy said
"You are most welcome, Lieutenant. However I'm not finished. You will also be receiving this," he said, producing a small ribbon. "It's the Captains Commendation Ribbon." He pinned it onto her uniform, and took a step back. "Congratulations!"
It might have seemed weird but if there was one thing Maddy was used to it was receiving honours, she'd won a lot of prizes in her time, most notably her Daystrom Prize, though she really wasn't the biggest fan of being the centre of attention. Smiling with a little embarrassment, she ran a hand through her hair.
"I can see you're uncomfortable, Lieutenant. That's just fine," Marius said with a slight chuckle. "Either way, thank you for your service. Before I dismiss you, is there anything else you'd like to discuss?"
"Not that I can think of sir." Maddy said "Marty knows what she's doing."
"Excellent," Marius said. "Alright Lieutenant, you're dismissed."
