Mission: Secrets
On:
The bridge of the Starbase Obsidian was a hive of controlled activity. Officers moved with purpose, their expressions a mix of anticipation and resolve. They were all feeling nervous about their upcoming journey, but they did not let it distract them from what needed to be done. The station, a marvel of Starfleet engineering, and the work of the Obsidian's own crew, stood as a testament to human ingenuity and determination. Yet, beneath the polished surfaces and humming consoles, there was an undercurrent of tension. This mission was unlike any other.
"Captain, we are approaching Deep Space Nine," the helm officer reported, his voice steady amidst the hum of the bridge.
Pontmercy rose from his command chair, adjusting his uniform with practiced precision. His gaze shifted to the viewscreen, where the imposing silhouette of Deep Space Nine loomed against the stars. The station, what was once a testimony of Bajor's rebellion against their Cardassian masters, now lay almost in ruin after the attack from the Synthulans- another reminder of why they needed to leave the Alpha Quadrant.
"Open a channel to Major Thrace," he ordered, his tone calm yet authoritative. "Inform her that we have arrived, and that the Angel is to dock as soon as possible."
"Aye, Captain," came the swift reply.
Moments later, the communications officer confirmed, "Major Thrace acknowledges. Docking procedures are commencing as we speak Captain."
"Keep me informed upon completion," Pontmercy instructed, settling back into his seat. A subtle tension gripped him, a reminder of the unknowns that lay ahead. "Open a channel to the entire station," he ordered.
"Initiating base-wide communication," the officer announced, complying.
"All hands, this is Captain Pontmercy," his voice resonated throughout the vessel. "We are on the cusp of a monumental journey. Ahead lies the Bajoran Wormhole, gateway to the Gamma Quadrant. From there, we will embark on a journey to the Delta Quadrant, and whatever may come. While the path is uncharted, our resolve is unwavering. Each of you has demonstrated exceptional dedication to Starfleet and to this crew. It is because of your commitment that we stand ready. Prepare yourselves for the challenges ahead. Keep strong, and stay faithful. Pontmercy out." Once finished, he let out a breath, and relaxed his jaw. His tension was making his head hurt.
"Captain, the Angel has successfully docked," the operations officer reported. Marius nodded in acknowledgement.
"Helm, set a course for the mouth of the wormhole," Pontmercy commanded. "Proceed at one-quarter impulse."
The viewscreen displayed the majestic opening of the Bajoran Wormhole—a swirling vortex of energy and light. Pontmercy watched, transfixed, as the Starbase neared the event horizon.
"Engage," he ordered, his voice steady. "Proceed through the wormhole."
*Two Minutes Later*
"Captain, we have arrived in the Gamma Quadrant," his helm officer called. Pontmercy could hear the steady beeping of fingers working on consoles, and nodded.
"Noted," Pontmercy said. "Status report?"
"All systems reporting operational and ready, Captain. We took no damage from the journey."
"Excellent, finally some good news. Activate the quantum slipstream drive," he ordered.
"Slipstream drive activated, Captain."
Marius paused for a moment before giving the order to engage. He knew that their lives were about to change forever. This trip... a week instead of a hundred-year journey, was still going to leave them in a territory where they were utterly alone for the foreseeable future. It had to be done, and they were ready.
"Engage," he said.

Their journey, for the most part, was uneventful. The crew of the Obsidian ensured that the Starbase ran at peak performance, and while they remained busy, nothing happened that they could not handle. Marius had spent the time working on plans with the Admiralty, talking with the Intelligence Department, and thinking and planning for their future. Seven days after their journey began, the Obsidian dropped out of Slipstream, and sensors confirmed that they were finally within the Delta Quadrant, hundreds of thousands of lightyears from where they started... and a new journey beginning.
"Helm, plot a course to Ocampa," he said as he exited his ready room.
"Course charted, Captain."
"Here we go, everyone," Marius said, almost to himself. Speaking louder and addressing the room at large, he said simply, "Engage."
