Mission: A New Beginning
Location: Ops
Timeline: current

At this point routine was the best friend anyone on the base had, just do your job, keep your focus and keep working. They were almost at Ocampa just a few hours away, in fact they'd just crested the very edge of the system. Charlotte was watching the store so to speak on the ops platform as they got their first glimpse of the world that would be their home, the red tinged planet was striking against the otherwise monotonous backdrop of darkness and stars. V'Lar was right next to Charlotte though the intelligence chief was more concerned with what was actually on the planet more than the beauty of the world from space.

"So here's the thing." V'Lar said as she brought up information on the surface from the logs of the USS Voyager "In 2371, the Ocampa's underground habitat was accessible from the surface by what could be described as mining shafts, the caretaker did put an energy field that covered the various openings in place to protect the Ocampa and keep the Kazon out. The shafts are located as you can tell from the markers across a wide area."
"And we have no way of knowing which are safe and which aren't." Charlotte said
"Correct." V'Lar said "When the Caretaker was dying he sealed the shafts which means all of these will have to some extent have been forcefully collapsed. But no energy field means that the only thing between the Ocampa and the surface is rubble."
"And then there's the bad news." Charlotte said "In 2371 there was a Kazon encampment on the surface, right slap bang in the middle of it all."
"If the Kazon stuck around because they wanted to get at the Ocampa then they've had sixty seven years to do it." V'Lar said
"I don't like the idea of just trying to beam down into the underground habitat blindly, we could end up with transporter accidents." Charlotte said
"And we can't do anything in terms of the planet until we've got the Ocampa and anyone else who may be down there off the surface." V'Lar said
"Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves." Charlotte said
"Almost a shame isn't it?" V'Lar said "Red looks good."
"I doubt it looks so good on the ground." Charlotte said
