Mission: A New Beginning
On:
Captain Pontmercy once again re-materialized onto one of the transporter padds in the transporter room, his mind already running scenarios and trying to figure out the quickest way to start seeding the planet. He knew that his Science Department would have it handled, but he could not help himself as he tried to work the problem.
Stepping off of the padd he nodded at the tech, and exited the room. It never failed to amaze him just how large the Obsidian was, which made it remarkable that they had been able to travel to the Delta Quadrant at all. His crew never ceased to surprise him.
The walk to his ready room took several minutes, and several lifts to accomplish, and all of the while he spent thinking about their meeting with the Ocampa. He hoped it would be a fruitful relationship, though the battle on the planet's surface left him concerned, and with more questions than he wanted at the moment. As he stepped off of the lift, he spotted a man in an Intelligence uniform standing by his door. He made his way towards the man, and motioned for him to follow Pontmercy into the ready room.
Jason nodded grimly as he followed. His hair was disheveled, but with the recent... unpleasantness that had befallen him, he wondered if his hopes of returning home where ever going to be realized. The Delta Quadrant. In his day, his time, there had just been the Milky Way. The James Webb had just been launched, and a Third World War wasn't even a dream yet when Jason had fallen asleep. That's all he did, lay down to fall asleep. And he had woken up here. Taking a breath he released it slowly as he tried to keep his composure.
"Lieutenant Jason Neniphim," the man said, the rank sounding more like Left-Tenant than the proper way of speaking in this day and age. "Junior Grade, apologies." he said as he remembered his demotion. Fingers pointing, spittle flying. He had been lucky that he still had a job, and was even alive. He'd warned the higher ups something could happen, but in their infinite wisdom they lied about sending him home; then allowed his home to be destroyed.
Marius nodded, and motioned for the man to take a seat. He tried to remember seeing the man in the hallways before, but it was a big base. From the looks of him, there was more to his story, and the more he thought about it, he was sure that the Lieutenant was new.
"Have a seat, Lieutenant. Were you among those we managed to rescue on our way out of the Alpha Quadrant?"
"Aye Sir... I was in Paris when the attack happened. Hit a runabout, and ended up here." he said. The details were shaky. "I... I heard Sol fell in the attack. And channels from every signatory to the Federation have gone silent. I can't even raise the people of Risa." He said looking to the right, and down. "So this... this is really it isn't it? I heard a couple Ensigns talking about the fall of the Federation. I told them to knock it off, but; but every bone in my body tells me that we're it. Where ever we are, and how ever we got here."
Marius sighed, rubbing his face with his left hand.
"Most of the Admiralty was killed in the attack, and the former President of the Federation and cabinet as well. Thankfully Admiral Olvera and a few others made it out, and are here now. They swore in a new President a week ago, and for now are rebuilding the Federation from here on the Obsidian." He nodded towards the planet of the Ocampa outside the window. "We are trying to rebuild here, on the surface. The Ocampa are being relocated to the base for the time being, and they're going to seed the planet to try and make it habitable. Hopefully it will become a suitable home for us."
"Aye Sir, what do you need from me?" Jason asked as his eyes were drawn to the planet. "Not much of a builder, but I'll do what I can. I mean I can build a fire in the middle of a storm but I doubt that's going to help here." He was rambling, and he knew it. But he couldn't help himself. His rough British accent sometimes making words difficult. "You tell me who to go to, where to report, and what we need, and I'll see it done." Marius smiled despite the situation.
"I'd meet with Lieutenant V'Lar, the Intelligence Chief. She'll be able to direct your day to day. But I appreciate it, and we are glad that you're here. We need all of the help that we can get if we are to rebuild the Federation."
"Copy Sir... we'll get her back up and running." Jason said as he stood and left quickly. Exiting the command bridge, he found a communications and directions array built into the wall. "Computer, take me to Intelligence." He said gently. He was going to get home, he was going to go back to when he fell asleep. This was just a small bump in the road. A fork that needed to be navigated.
