Mission: Secrets
ON:
Chris struggled against the restraints he was in. "This is crazy. Get me out of here and out of these."
The nurse looked at him. "I'm sorry sir. But we can't, they are for your own good." Dakota had been resting her eyes in the corner, not having been able to sleep the past few nights with all that was going on with Chris. She looked up, and sighed.
"You are okay, Chris. I need to you to try and remain calm."
Marty could hear the Admiral scream all the way outside of his room. Putting on her best professional smile, she entered the room. “Good afternoon Admiral,” she said with a nod to dismiss the nurse. “I’m Counselor Stokes, how are you feeling?”
"I'm feeling like I'm being held hostage. I wake up to find myself strapped to this bed. How would you feel? I knew something was wrong. " Chris said still struggling but to no avail.
"Hello Counselor," the Fleet Admiral said in a tired voice. "Admiral Bradley has been... dealing with a lot lately." She sighed and stood, crossing the short distance between the two of them. "He has been having nightmares, and increasingly growing paranoid and suffering from what seems like delusions."
Marty nodded at Olvera. “How long has this been going on?” Gritting her teeth in annoyance and worry, she glanced from Chris back to the Counselor.
"It is hard to say with anything specific as he was not... forthcoming with what he was dealing with. I only found out about it after severe symptoms started to manifest. I'd say at least a few weeks, but it could be as long as a few months."
“Medical conditions were ruled out, I’m assuming based on his file,” Marty mumbled absently as she looked beyond Olvera to a clearly agitated Bradley.
"I have no underlying conditions. I'm as healthy as I ever was and if I could get out of these, I'd be even better. Holding me hostage here. This is nuts. You are all out to get me. I knew it." Chris said.
"This is not normal behavior," she assured Marty. "He is irrational, fearful, aggressive... and I am worried about him."
"Because you are working with them. You all are." Chris said
Marty nodded. “Definitely not the norm for sure, did anything happen recently that could have triggered this episode of delusion?”
Chris sighed, "We came back here and within a few days I heard them. They are calling, taunting... everywhere I look I see them... "
“Them?” Marty asked as she narrowed her eyes. “Describe them to me.” Olvera exchanged a look with the Counselor.
"There are some things that are classified about the original mission involving Starbase Obsidian, but needless to say Chris encountered a species during a battle here, and we are thinking it has something to do with that."
“Admiral,” Marty said quietly. “I understand the need for classified information but you also have to understand that if I’m going to help the Admiral through this, I need to know what the cause is.”
"While you two have your nice discussion, can I be let go?" Chris said still trying to get out of the restraints.
Dakota shook her head and ignored Chris. "They are called Synthulans. A new alien race that we never saw before. We don't know much about them except they are extremely dangerous. They murdered many people in front of Chris for information and tortured him."
Marty sucked in a breath, she had multiple questions that she wanted to ask but knew Bradley’s mental condition wouldn’t allow for such an onslaught. “I’m going to recommend that the Admiral be sedated at least for the night, he’ll need a good nights rest before any treatment can begin,” Marty whispered as she met Olvera’s eyes. “And I’m going to go a step further here and relieve him of duty until his mental state has stabilized. It would be a good idea to have medical in on this as well.”
Chris looked at them both. "No way. I'm not staying here. Why does she have to make the decisions. No No." Chris started pulling on the restraints more.
"That's probably for the best," Dakota said with a sigh. "I hate seeing him like this. Do what you must."
Marty nodded as she went to find the doctor on duty to administer the sedation. Once the admiral was resting comfortably, Marty looked at Olvera again. “Now we must discuss treatment plans to determine best way to help the admiral get past this and I’m going to need specifics about what went on during the siege in order to target the exact memories that are driving him into this delusional state.” Olvera frowned, thinking to herself about what to do, and what to say. Finally, she squared her shoulders and turned to face the Counselor.
"Eight years ago, Chris- Admiral Bradley, was here on a secret mission to work on a cloaking project that would take any ships and bases and give them the ability to shield, cloak, warp, and fire weapons. They were attacked by an unknown enemy at the time, which have recently been identified as the Synthulans. They basically murdered everyone that was on the base, and destroyed the outpost. You all saw what was left of it when you first arrived. They held Admiral Bradley hostage and killed crew right in front of him... trying to get him to give up the secrets of the project, but he was able to hold out. Eventually he was rescued by the fleet, and what few remained of the original members of the crew that were stationed here."
“What a terrible thing it must have been to keep it all inside,” Marty said quietly as she looked over at Bradley and sensed the turmoil he was fighting deep within his psyche. “Would you consider some help from outside the medical community?” she asked Dakota without taking her eyes off Bradley. “I know it maybe unorthodox but I’ve found that Vulcan mind melds have a way of helping when it comes to mental conditions.”
"That is certainly an interesting idea," Dakota said. "What are your success rates?"
“I’ve found them to be very successful if I had to put a number on it, I’d say at least eighty percent of the time they’ve helped my patients,” Marty said thoughtfully. “None of them have been as serious as the Admirals but I think I know the right Vulcan for the job if it becomes necessary.” Olvera ran her fingers through her hair, thinking. She had spent so much time worrying about Chris and now there might possibly be some answers.
"Alright, let's do it."
Marty nodded. “Tomorrow after the Admiral had rested we will see how he is then and I’ll talk to V’Lar and see if she’s willing to help.”
"Thank you, Counselor. I appreciate it."
