Mission: Secrets
On:
Celine entered the Diplomatic Department, noting with sadness at the many darkened offices around her. With so many planets leaving the Federation, there were not that many Diplomats willing to stay aboard a Federation Station, even if they were still on good terms.
The Klingon Ambassador had left the day before without a word, and she had been expecting that one. It was too much to hope that their alliance would hold after the aftermath of the explosion.
"Coffee, black," she ordered at a replicator, and waited a moment for it to materialize. When it had, she picked it up and carried it with her to her office. Taking a seat behind her desk, she took a sip of her coffee before laying it to rest beside her computer. She opened up the last message she had been working on, which was to the Cairn Ambassador. She quickly reread what she had been writing:

Starbase Obsidian
Ambassador Badril
Cairn Embassy
Dear Ambassador Badril,
I hope this message finds you in good health and spirits during these trying times. As the Chief Diplomatic Officer aboard Starbase Obsidian, I have witnessed firsthand the challenges that our Federation faces in this ongoing conflict with the Romulans and Cardassians. The recent decision of Cairn to withdraw from the Federation has not gone unnoticed, and I fully respect the complexities behind such a significant choice.
Despite the distance that now exists between us, I believe it is crucial for us to maintain open lines of communication. The Federation has always valued the diverse perspectives and contributions of its member worlds, and your insights into the current situation would be invaluable. I genuinely wish to understand Cairn’s position and explore any opportunities for dialogue that might ease tensions and foster cooperation.

Celine paused for a moment, thinking about what to write. Finally, she knew what to say. She started typing, and the words flowed naturally and genuinely.
I would like to propose a secure meeting, either in person at Starbase Obsidian or through subspace communication, at your earliest convenience. This meeting could serve as a platform to discuss not only the challenges we face but also the potential pathways for a future where our worlds can work together again, even amidst adversity.
Your leadership and wisdom are vital during these turbulent times, and I am hopeful that we can find common ground. Please let me know a time that would work for you.
Thank you for considering this outreach, and I look forward to your response.
Warm regards,
Lieutenant JG Celine Quinn
Chief Diplomatic Officer
Starbase Obsidian
Finishing the letter, she sent it and sat back in her chair, thinking about what she had done. She had reached out to several former members and had yet to receive a reply, but she could not lose hope. She would not stop trying. She had to.
