Mission: Secrets
ON:
Master Chief De Bruinhiena hummed to himself as he scrolled through the logs just trying to kill time until he could clock out. It was quite possibly the best benefit of being the highest ranking enlisted member; not having to do whatever the hell the officers were doing or having to do take direct control of whatever work party the Enlisted crewmen had been assigned to. However, that did come with the added responsibility of making sure everything was still running whenever everyone was away. It really wasn't all that bad tho, considering the Chiefs had put the station back in order while teaching the Ensigns how to lead since the Academy could only do so much. Yes, it was a 4 year program, but the Cadets were generally far too busy keeping their GPAs in the black to learn how to actually lead people.
From what he'd heard from previous JOs, it seemed like most of the Academy was about playing an unending game of... what did the humans call it? Grab flank? Butt holding? No. No. Those weren't right. Yes! It was grab ass. He still wasn't entirely sure why anyone would want to grab hold of an Equinoid's butt, but humans were full of odd sayings. Then again, they also called some of his own people's sayings odd, so everything equaled out.
Shrugging his shoulders, the Master Chief leaned back in his seat, wondering what his wife was up to now that the kids were finally back in school. It wasn't as though she couldn't find ways to occupy her time, it was more along the lines of old habbits being hard to kick. After all, she didn't exactly have the cleanest of slates since not all Federation member worlds were Utopian Paradises like Sol.
As his mind wandered, he turned to look over at the Chronometer. Come to think of it, the kids should be done with school by now, so he'd be able to get home and actually spend some quality time with them before heading to bed, something that his daughter from his first marriage hadn't exactly been granted a great deal of. The phrase, "Rank has its benefits," popped into his head. There were a lot of things he would have done differently back then that might have saved his first marriage. Then again, it might have been better if he'd waited to get married until he'd gotten higher up on the proverbial StarFleet totem pole before putting a ring on his ex-wife's finger. But that didn't exactly guarantee that they'd have ended up with one another, which meant the Caitian might not have even been his wife... or ex-wife. It was certainly the unique existential rabbit hole to get lost in.
Snorting, Master Chief shook his head. There was no point in getting caught up in his own thoughts. He could easily get lost in them. There were more important things to do before he could call it a day, mostly put his signature on the document he'd been eyeing for the last 15 minutes before he'd attempted to kill a little more time. Pressing his thumb down on the PADD, the reader accepted his print before filling in the appropriate digital signature box. "That should do it," the hienian said with a smile before rolling forwards and turning off his computer terminal. "Time to see what Rei and the kids are up to."
