Mission: Obsidian

The following is a personal log from LT(JG) V'Lar.

The strange thing about life in Starfleet is that all the specialist knowledge and fields tend to make people think in certain ways. Every department on a ship can be summed up with their own responsibilities and so forth, seventy four years ago a Specialist by the name of Kosinski remarked during a visit to the USS Enterprise-D that "A ship's engines should be the concern of a ship's Captain." there's some truth in that though I doubt the logic of Captain Pontmercy donning an engineering tool belt and venturing around the many Jeffries tubes of the Arcadia or this new puzzle of a base, that sits invitingly yet imposingly outside the windows of the ship, short of providing much humour. From what I've observed of him Lieutenant Chambers is a fine engineer and his judgement top notch, so if his estimate is remotely accurate then one has to question Starfleet's orders if assuming them to be literal, but if not taken literally, if attempting to see the whole board does this present situation make any more sense?

My job is roughly summed up as "Making things make sense" and right now this base doesn't make sense, why withhold information about this? What's so special about this place? What happened here? It can't be anything to do with the battle, after all that information is easily accessed and a report on such circumstances is standard procedure. But still there are things that our new Captain and First Officer have said that raise suspicions. Something doesn't make sense and the answer is on the station, what happens after that is another matter but there's an awful lot of answers being thrown around and not a lot of questions.
