Mission: Secrets

ON:

The meeting had been called. It was time. All staff who had worked on rescuing Admiral Bradley were assembled. At this point, they were going to go over what each one learned, and what the next steps were.

Tom had everything set in front of him to present his findings with Ensign Galaway. They all sat waiting for the Captain to begin the meeting.

Marius Pontmercy cleared his throat and put down the data padd he had been reading, finally looking at those assembled before him. His eyes were tired, but they shone brightly with the determination he felt. He saw that same look echoed in the faces of those around him. Finally, he spoke.

"Alright, tell me what you have."

"A plan of sorts." Charlotte said "We have the means to get where we need to go, we have the means to rescue the Admiral, we have the means to get back and shake off the inevitable pursuit."

"We have a plan of action in regards to the nanotechnology in the Admirals bloodstream." Maddy said

"And we have an idea in regards to the base location." V'Lar said

"It's a lot of variables so assuming Doctor Ryan has information pertaining to the Admiral's whereabouts that would be the logical place to start." Charlotte said

Tom nodded. "I do. Thanks to Ensign Galaway here we were able to locate a faint residual of quantum resonance. With this in hand, my team has determined that this would be where they are holding Admiral Bradley. It's the same signal the nanoties gave off that were in his blood stream. And it appears to be linked directly to him." Fara smiled faintly, but remained quietly. She was in a room of Senior Staff, and felt way out of her league.

"And the advantage of knowing that is that we can use what we've developed aboard the Inquiry Class to peek behind the curtain as it were." Hannah said "In short we can get a look at whether we're looking at a planet, a space station or something else all together." Marius nodded.

"It sounds as though you may have a plan, but I have not heard any details. I know that you are working with Admiral Tabolt's blessing, but what can you tell me?"

“All I know right now is that we need to be very careful approaching them. Once we get there we don’t know what will happen. But we should make sure we disable their communications once we get close enough so they can’t detect us. It gives us a window to move but it’s got to be fast.” Tom said

"Hannah." Charlotte said

"This." Hannah said bringing up a holographic image of the Inquiry Class "Is the USS Angel, we've outfitted her as if we're going up against the Borg, so chips for random adjustments of shields and weapons frequencies, wide variety of different weapons, ablative armour, a cloaking device from the Pegasus project and so on, she should be able to hold her own in a fight against the Synthulans. The key however isn't her weapons it's her engine." the image highlighted the components "This is a displacement activated spore hub drive, it allows us to travel instantly anywhere we have the coordinates for, whether that be in this universe, another reality or another dimension, historically this method of propulsion is close to two hundred years old and is classified top secret. I am going to assure the Admiral's in the room that no hacking of classified files has happened in the development of this. We recovered files relating to this engine from the Tal'Shiar cloning facility that the Captain led the mission to. As I've said this technology does also allow us to peek behind the curtain so we do know where we have to go, using the information provided by Doctor Ryan and Lieutenant Eschenauer we have got a reference image of where we're going." she brought it up.

The image was what looked to be a floating city with a nebula behind it, it was a pretty intimidating thing because this was in essence comparable to a fairly large starbase it was in practical terms a fortress.

"We don't know where in there Admiral Bradley is but we know he's in there somewhere." Charlotte said "Let's be clear, when we go in there we're effectively starting a fight that could have very significant consequences, this is going to be a smash and grab rescue." she took a breath "I'm going to walk through what I propose step by step. Step one, the rescue team and a skeleton crew will travel aboard the Angel to the El-Adrel system, there are two reasons for doing that, firstly we need to be outside of Federation space to avoid raising eyebrows, secondly we have to assume that they can track our jumps back to a point of origin in which case the last thing we want is a Synthulan ship appearing in the middle of the Federation. Once at El-Adrel the Angel will use it's spore drive to jump to coordinates inside that nebula, that gets us there. Once there the rescue team will board two Kaplan F17's and make a stealth approach to the city, it's doubtful we'll get all the way there undetected because they'll be an initial flashpoint as we exit the nebula but that's ok, the Kaplan's will be rigged to detonate electro magnetic pulses, these should level the playing field for a few minutes at least. It is likely that the rescue team will have to execute some form of orbital dive esque move in order to get into the city undetected. We will wear bio dampers and we will have a variety of weapons. If the Synthulans are like the Borg then we will have minutes to find the admiral before they adapt."

Marius sat back on his chair, processing this information. There were a number of laws and regulations that were being bent and broken, but now was not the time to think about that. This was a war on three fronts and he'd be damned if Bradley became the latest casualty.

"I remember reading something about the technology you are using," he admitted, "probably a history class at the academy. The details were minimal, of course, but still the point was made. Who are you taking with you?"

"The rescue team, by which I mean those going into the facility will be myself, Joel, Okan, Yujas Ritt and I'd like ensign Harker along as well. Doctor Ryan will be coming along as he is the Synthulan expert, Lieutenant Andrews will fly the Kaplan in, Lieutenant Cruz's scientific expertise will likely be needed and I want Erin to come because we'll need a means of locating the Admiral once there and her Betazoid abilities may well be best suited for that." Charlotte said "The ship itself will have a need for other personnel but that's a skeleton crew which will need to include Hannah and ensign Barker as they're both familiar with the components of the propulsion system we're using and Doctor Dale as the doctor dealing with the Admiral's case.

If things go as planned the Kaplan will drift up to the facility on its own inertia, detonate the EMP, thus shorting out Synthulan communications, sensors and so on, at that point the Angel can begin to make an approach towards the facility, the team will then proceed to locate and secure Admiral Bradley if all goes as we hope we'll be able to get out before anything comes back on. Then we get into the trickier part of this because we're then waiting for Doctor Ryan and Doctor Dale to do their thing."

Erin was surprised to hear her name mentioned, but after the Marines explanation, she knew it made sense.

"I think that makes sense," Pontmercy said after a moment, working through it in his mind. "When are you planning on leaving?"

Master Cheif leaned back in his seat, a hand moving to massage his temples mainly because of the headache, but also from the all the work that had been going on behind the scenes to even get a plan ready.

At the Captain's question Charlotte looked at Hannah. "We need to finish loading cargo and we need to double check the interface works with Codi and do final system wide diagnostics to make sure everything's working as it should." Hannah said "We can be gone within twenty four hours maybe twenty six hours of this meeting ending."

"And do consider this is still only half the general equation." Charlotte said "Getting the Admiral back is one thing, creating the circumstances where the Synthulan's can't just come straight for us immediately is quite another."

"My belief is that once we get the admiral back and remove the nanoprobes, the tracking they had on him will be removed. However they do know where this base is located and trust me, they won't forget. If it stays in the same location, they will come back here looking for him. However, I am aware of the original reason as to why the Synthulans want the Admiral. And I believe the project the Admiral was working on here, would help in the future, in regards to potentially moving and hiding the base." Tom said.

Mike finally spoke up. "I would like to go on the rescue mission."

Marius took a moment before replying. There was a lot of information to digest and a lot riding on this.

"All right, I want all information about the Admiral's project given to Engineering and Operations. I want a plan to move the base on my desk in 48 hours. MCPO De Bruinhiena, you will then work with Operations to ensure that we have a plan to make this a smooth transition for our crew and civilians. Lieutenant Stokes, I imagine that we will have an uptick in visitors to your department with the attack and the danger we are facing. Please ensure that your staff is prepared to handle that. Lieutenant Quinn, make sure that you are reaching out to your contacts, see if anyone may have some information we have missed." He glanced around the room. "This is a dangerous mission, for us and for the Admiral, and if not executed correctly could have repercussions on this base as well. We need to make sure that we are working at our best." His eyes met McMahon's. "If you would like to go on this mission, I will approve it. However I feel that you should meet with Lieutenant Stokes first and make sure that you will be able to handle it. Otherwise I want you here and working on our plan to move the base."

"I'll draw up a list of possible destinations to move the base to." V'Lar said

"Understand this." Charlotte said "There's far more to this than just moving the base. I've said many times over the last few months that the Federation won't fall to the Cardassians and the Romulans for various reasons. Now I'm going to tell you to forget about the Romulans and the Cardassians, the Synthulans outpower us and outgun us and we all know that if they come in force, which is likely, then they can rip through the Federation like a hot knife through butter. Make no mistake this is now about the continued existence of the Federation in some form."

Marius grit his teeth, knowing she was right. Even if this went well... It was likely that they'd be in the cross hairs of the Synthulans no matter what.

"I think it may be time that non essential personnel be informed that they should leave. They should be prepared to leave within 24 hours. Any that choose to stay, including those on the promenade, will be under lockdown protocols until otherwise notified." He looked around the room.

"Anything else?"

"Just this." Charlotte said "Anyone setting foot inside the facility, who hasn't already been certified on it, needs to run themselves through the advanced combat program's on the holodeck, you've got about twenty fours to do that before the Angel's ready to go to do that." With that, Marius stood.

"Alright everyone, you know what needs to be done. Lieutenant Thrace, let me know of any final details before you depart. Dismissed, everyone."
