Mission: Secrets

Tom had sent a message to Dakota. He wanted to be the one to let her know what was happening and the plans for finding Chris. He was going on the mission. He was qualified, but hadn't been on an away mission in a while. He sat in the observation lounge going through the data padds on everything he had planned waiting for her to arrive.

Dakota hurried down the hall. She was trying to maintain an outward appearance of calm when on the inside she was falling apart. She wanted Chris back home with her and until that happened she would be this way. Entering she spoke immediately. “Fill me in! She demanded .

Tom didn’t look up. “We found him and the base he is at. They have a rescue mission to get him back. They got a ship and a spore drive. I’m going on the mission to make sure they get him back. Once back we will have to see what they did and get those nano probes out of him. But it’s a very tough procedure because one wrong move and it’s over. So we decided to put him on bypass and then bring him back.”

Dakota listened to him, her eyes widening as she heard the details of the plan. She wanted to object but she trusted these people and knew that they had carefully plotted what they would do. "Who is on this team." She wanted to know who was going after her husband.

"Charlotte Thrace, Joel Haines, O'kun, Charlie Andrews, Yukas Ritt, Derek Harker, Erin Couldis, all of science to take care of the spore drive and then Maddy Dale and myself as the doctors. Oh and your nephew Mike. " Tom said trying to remember everyone. "I won't let anything happen to them. You have my word." Tom said facing her.

"I have confidence in 1st Lieutenant Thrace and all of you." Dakota replied. "I know Chris would want Mike to stay but I also know how badly he needs to go." She paused quietly. "If the situation were different I would want to go as well but I am needed here."

"You can't go. I sure wouldn't let you. Everything will work out. Getting him out of the base is tricky bnut can be done. It's the helping him when he's back we have to worry about. I don't know what physical condition he is in. And what else they might have done to him. But he is strong. You wouldn't have married a weakling. And as his doctor and best friend - He is not weak." Tom said.

“If I wanted to only Admiral Tabolt could stop me.” Dakota said evenly. “I know it would not be best and I trust the team.” She was a bit irritated at his thinking he could stop her.

"I know. Hey I'm sorry. I didn't mean anything by it. We've been friends for over 20 years now. I am as worried as you are. " Tom said. "He will be ok. This isn't like the last time. We are better prepared now."

“Thank you, Tom.” Dakota said with a wan smile. “I will feel better once he is home and things are back to normal.”

"Yes. I agree. And who knows. Maybe I'll stick around for a while. I miss the dinners and the nights we all had together." Tom said. "And maybe I'll see my goddaughter Iris one of these days too."

“She is on her way here.” Dakota said quietly. “I tried to stop her but it didn’t do any good. She will arrive shortly.”

Tom sighed. “She is definitely your child. But that’s a good thing. She will be here with you and you need better company than just me. I know I’m cute and adorable but she’s stronger than me”

“It will be good to have us all together.” Dakota said with a smile. “I just wish it was under better circumstances.” She just wanted things back the way they were and knew she just needed to be patient.

“I promise you I will do everything I can to make sure Chris gets back to normal. It is going to be a lot once he’s back here depending on what they did to him. I’m pretty sure they didn’t leave him alone. He’s going to need a lot of help. I’m glad Iris is coming because he is going to need all his loved ones to recover. Remember the last time and how that was.” Tom said remembering when he got the call about the first time the Synthulans came and did what they did to Chris.

“Yes.” Dakota nodded. “Iris being here will be a great help. Chris is going to need as many loved ones as possible.”

Tom nodded. “If you need anything else or just to talk you know I’m here.”

"Yes." Dakota nodded. "I will contact you should I need to talk." She was in her own head at the moment, just trying to keep busy and not think about what 'could' be happening. They were leaving soon and would bring Chris home, of this she was confident.

Tom looked at Dakota. He could probably ask her for anything now and she would probably agree. He didn't know what she was going through. His family was just killed. Not taken and tortured. But he knew they would get Chris home. He stood getting his padds together. "And I'll make sure Mike doesn't do anything he shouldn't. You don't need to worry about him."

Dakota smiled at him. "That is like asking a child to not take candy out of a jar. I will focus on other things but until you are all safely back here, I will be concerned." It was the way she was made. Dakota didn't let it engulf her but it would be there.

“I understand. All will be well. I’m not usually wrong. Remember I was right about setting you and Chris up.” Tom said.

Dakota smiled back at him. "Yes you were." She paused for a moment. "And you will be right again. Bring him home."

"Yes Admiral." Tom said with a sly grin. He hardly called Dakota Admiral especially since he had "retired" from active duty but today he felt it was deserved. And who knew - maybe he would come out of active retirement.
