Mission:
Secrets
Location: Obsidian Station
Timeline: current
It was probably one of the weirder sights that had been seen aboard the base, in one of the long arms that joined one of the six docking rings to the habitat ring Rhyth's legs were dangling out of the ceiling, with Chambers and McGregor more focused on the stealth side of the equation she was pushing the warp drive half and she was already rethinking it not because she doubted her theory but because there were signs of previous work having been done, which shouldn't have been surprising considering that this project went back a few years. All of which had led her to investigate exactly what work had been done and here she was climbing into a service corridor in the arm. Pulling herself up into the small space a little more she shone the light from her torch ahead of her and illuminated what looked like metallic components a few metres away. "Ok so what the heck are you?" Rhyth asked, pulling out her tricorder and scanning, the components were made of Duranium a common ore used in starship and starbase construction. It took a moment or two more of just looking at the components before the penny dropped in Rhyth's head "Oh Bradley you mad genius."
Dropping out of the hatch Rhyth ran to the section that separated the docking arm from the habitat ring and examined it, the door partition was thicker than normal, in fact it looked like a space door. With a spring in her step she headed off to where the work around the warp core was being built in the sphere section. Looking around at the teams that were assembling the warp core structure Rhyth called some of the team leaders over "Ok so turns out that the work that was already in progress makes our job a little easier." she said "We should have seen it coming because of how completely non-aerodynamic this base is but each of our docking arms are connected to the habitat ring by the use of docking clamps you'd find on a Galaxy class starship. So this warp core needs to still be the biggest we've ever seen but each of the six docking rings will need a warp core out of an Ascension class and two nacelles constructing on drop down supports. We'll need to also construct a circular drop down nacelle that can be hidden in the bottom of the habitat ring, we don't want any of our propulsion systems exposed when not in use. I'll be building the system pathways from Ops."
It was about an hour later that Rhyth stepped onto ops for her shift, seven warp cores... well that was different and she was still kicking herself about not seeing it, of course whoever had planned to experiment on warping an E class base was going to have to account for the arms that made the whole construction harder to handle in theory. Accessing the console she went diving into the rabbit hole of programs, now she knew what she was looking for it shouldn't take too long for her to find it. Her hands glided over the LCARs and then she found it the separation program. "Ok so let's get that primed." she muttered to herself before she pulled up the system network pathway map to check the progress being made connecting all the different components of this endeavour to what needed to happen.
