Mission: Secrets
On
Marius Pontmercy sat at his desk looking over a file on the monitor in front of him. His face was illuminated by the screen, the room was dim in order to tame the pain in his head. The report he was reading was by Admiral Janeway, and it detailed her former ship, the USS Voyager, and it's mission throughout the Delta Quadrant. He read back over the overview again:
'The Delta Quadrant is a vast and dynamic region of the galaxy, approximately 30,000 light-years from Federation space, characterized by its diversity of species, cultures, and technologies. During the USS Voyager's seven-year journey through this quadrant, we encountered numerous civilizations, ranging from pre-warp societies to advanced species capable of manipulating space-time itself. The quadrant is dominated by a lack of centralized governance, with power often held by regional factions such as the Kazon, the Vidiians, the Hirogen, and the Borg. The Borg Collective, in particular, remains the most formidable force in the Delta Quadrant, their relentless pursuit of assimilation posing a significant threat to all who cross their path. However, the quadrant also revealed remarkable opportunities for scientific discovery, including unique astronomical phenomena like spatial rifts, quantum singularities, and regions of subspace instability. Our interactions with species such as the Talaxians, the Ocampa, and the Hirogen provided valuable insights into the quadrant's complex social and political dynamics, as well as its potential for both cooperation and conflict.
The Delta Quadrant is a region of immense challenges and opportunities. Its vast distances and limited resources make long-term survival difficult for any starship cut off from support, as Voyager experienced firsthand. Yet, it is also a quadrant rich with untapped potential for scientific advancement and cultural exchange. The Borg's presence, while a significant threat, also offers a unique opportunity to study their technology and societal structure, as demonstrated by our successful integration of Seven of Nine into Voyager's crew. Additionally, the quadrant's fragmented political landscape, marked by shifting alliances and rivalries, presents both risks and possibilities for future Federation diplomacy. Voyager's journey has only scratched the surface of what the Delta Quadrant has to offer, and I strongly recommend that Starfleet consider further exploration of this region, armed with the knowledge we have gained. The Delta Quadrant is a frontier that demands respect, caution, and curiosity, and it holds the potential to expand the Federation's understanding of the galaxy in profound ways."
Marius leaned back in his chair, his eyes closed as he thought about that. The Obsidian would be safer from the threat that the Synthulans posed, but he was nervous that they would have to face some of the significant does that the Voyager crew had to interact with. Still, it seemed like their best shot. He only hoped that it would be the right decision.
