Mission: Secrets

Marius sat at his desk, reading and re-reading the message he had received. He knew it was for the best, but it still was unfortunate news. He thought about Marty Stokes and how hard she had been working on the Medical Department, and smiled. She had done an amazing job and he was glad to have her.

He sighed, stretching for a moment, and then tapped his comm badge.

"Doctor Stokes, please report to my ready room."

Marty heard the call from the Captain and finished up the report she had been working on and headed to the Captain’s ready room. “You wanted to see me sir?” she asked curiously once he had given permission to enter.

"I did, doctor. Yes. Please have a seat," Marius requested, motioning for her to have a seat in the chair in front of him.

Marty sat down and smiled. “Sickbay is running at full efficiency, Captain.”

"I am glad to hear it," Pontmercy said. "It is good to have something good to happen after all this. Speaking of which, how are you handling everything?"

“Pretty good, I think,” Marty said with a forced smile. “At least I know my children are in good hands.” Marius wasn't entirely sure what she meant by this, but he nodded. It was definitely something to be happy about during something like that.

"I received word that Doctor Hemsley will not be returning as Chief Medical Officer, so that job is yours officially, if you still want it after all of this."

“I’ll do it,” Marty said excitedly. “I didn’t realize how much I missed medical until I got back into it! You won’t be disappointed Captain!”

"I know I won't," the Captain said sincerely. "I also wanted to say, that because of your hard work, dedication to the safety and well-being of this crew, and your willingness to step up whenever needed, I am promoting you to full Lieutenant." He stood up, walked around his desk, and after motioning the doctor to stand, pinned a new pip on her collar. "Congratulations, Doctor."

“Thank you, sir,” Marty said giddily. “I’m very proud to be here.”

"I am glad to hear you say that," Marius said as he grew more serious. The coming days will be challenging, and as we enter the Delta Quadrant... Well let's just say your skills will be put to the test. I'd suggest reviewing the USS Voyager's mission logs to ensure you're up to speed."

“Yes, sir,” Marty said. “I and my department will be ready.” Marius nodded and turned back to his desk.

"Let me know if you need anything. We can't afford to be missing a step at this stage."

“Yes, sir,” Marty said before turning to go. “And if there’s anything I can do as well, please let me know.”

"I will, thank you Doctor. You are dismissed," Marius said with a smile.
