Mission: A New Beginning
Location: Intelligence

Last Time:

"I'd meet with Lieutenant V'Lar, the Intelligence Chief. She'll be able to direct your day to day. But I appreciate it, and we are glad that you're here. We need all of the help that we can get if we are to rebuild the Federation."

"Copy Sir... we'll get her back up and running." Jason said as he stood and left quickly. Exiting the command bridge, he found a communications and directions array built into the wall. "Computer, take me to Intelligence." He said gently. He was going to get home, he was going to go back to when he fell asleep. This was just a small bump in the road. A fork that needed to be navigated.

ON:

Jason stood outside his new department, attempting to enter. "Come on, I just got sent here," he grumbled to himself as he typed in every bypass code he could think of. He hadn't heard of this V'Lar person before. Not that it mattered. He was here to get a job done. Not to play with the computer. Growling as he started scrambling the bypass codes randomly, he stopped, taking a breath. "Open Sesame?" he said as the doors to his new home stayed depressingly closed.

"Ok who the heck is trying to access a secure area while I'm trying to sleep?" V'Lar asked a few moments later as she came around the corner, having sent Freya and Timor off on a mission she had even fewer people in her team available to run things so she'd taken to locking the department when it was empty. "And just who the heck are you and why are you trying to get into my department?"

"Lieutenant Jason Neniphim. A rescuee." Jason said, that signature 'Left-Tenant' flowing from his lips with his accent. "Captain sent me over here to help." He said looking away. "I'm sorry to have disturbed you, I didn't realize that it would be locked."

V'Lar sighed "Well at least someone's remembered that I've got the most understaffed department..." she said "Lieutenant V'Lar I'm the chief intelligence officer around here, which given that this department right now is effectively Starfleet Intelligence isn't saying much." she walked over to the door and input the access code opening the doors "We don't really call it the intelligence department, we call it the intelligence hub, from here we somehow try to monitor what's going on in pretty much all four quadrants of the galaxy."

Jason nodded as the doors opened, looking at the hub. "I see. I can start with night shift. Start looking for... anything." He said as Jason saw the burnt federation flag. "Where were you?" He asked as he stepped forward, ignoring the data screens as he reached for the damaged flag. "I... I was in Paris. Running lines on the Romulans. Tried telling the ding bats this was coming..." he whispered, his eyes looking at his last bit of hope.

"When it happened?" V'Lar asked "I was here trying to stay one move or better ahead of it so we could get out of it alive, we rode our luck but we survived it and now we have to make that mean something."

"It will, for more than one reason." Jason said as he tore his eyes away from the damaged Federation Flag. Looking around, Jason found a desk that seemed almost unused. "I'll make it mean something Lieutenant." He said as he started merging all four quadrants to one work station. "Again, sorry to wake you, get some sleep Lieutenant. I'll see you in the morning."

"Focus on the Gamma Quadrant." V'Lar said "Particularly around where the Bajoran wormhole comes out, the Federation put a sensor post perimeter out there once the Dominion War was over, basically reinstating what was there before. DS9 has likely fallen to the Cardassians by now and chances are they've got Bajor as well but likely having to fight for it. If the Cardassians have DS9 then those sensor posts work for them now, monitor for any activity patterns - patrols, traffic and so on. If there's a routine to anything I want to know it because that'll impact things we're looking into potentially doing." she smiled "Welcome aboard Lieutenant and I'll see you in the morning."

"Yes ma'am, the wormhole and the sensor posts." Jason said as he started typing. He didn't even notice that L'Var has said anything else as he began to pour over sensor information. "Deep Space Nine..." he whispered as he typed out the name. "Find the pattern and you can go home Jason," he heard himself say. A message down through the years from a man that was long since dead. "The pattern is always there, you just need to see it for the first time, and you can find it any time you want."
