Post #287: Down the Rabbit Hole

352 words; about a 2 minute read

Mission: A New Beginning
Location: Hannah's Lab
Timeline: current

"Come on...come on." Hannah said as she scrolled through what must have been the thirtieth PADD on terraforming "And no once again not the answer." she tossed the PADD onto the table that held the pile of PADD's that she'd already read through. She let out a sigh as she went to the replicator in her lab and got a drink, she was no closer to solving the puzzle. Terraforming a planet was a delicate process, the textbook method was to seed the planets atmosphere with water and let the change happen which usually took years to happen, time which they did not have in this instance. They needed something quicker than years, so she'd dug up every research paper, every article, every theory on terraforming in the computer database in an attempt to try and find something to help them but there just didn't appear to be anything.

"Come on Hannah." Hannah said to herself "You stabilised the Omega particle, you built a spore drive, surely you can find a way of terraforming a planet quicker than what the textbooks say." she took a breath "Computer is this everything on terraforming in the database?"
"Confirmed." the computer responded.
"And the fastest a planet has been terraformed is in years?" Hannah said
"Affirmative." the computer said
"Wonderful." Hannah said sitting down on the camp bed she kept in the lab for when she was working late.

As might have been expected Hannah did eventually pass out and when she came to she went back over to the PADD's she hadn't read yet, she didn't know why, after all if all the information said it couldn't be done then wasn't it the definition of madness to ask the same question expecting a different answer? Picking up the PADD on top of the pile she blinked at it a few times before realising that it wasn't a terraforming paper it was a more straightforward message with what looked like a set of coordinates and a Stardate 8130.3

"Well this just got interesting." she said
