Mission: A New Beginning

Captain Pontmercy sat in his chair on the Observation Deck, watching as the Starfighter team with a Marine contingent escorted a medical transport to the five drifting vessels. It had been determined that the debris field around the vessels made it too dangerous to beam anyone in and out, and so the decision was made to carefully attempt to rescue whoever was still alive.

He waited with bated breath as the ships drew close enough to dock with the first vessel.

"This is Echo One, docking sequence complete. Squad One entering the ship now." It seemed like an eternity passed before the same voice came back onto the channel. "This is Echo One, no hostiles present. We have located the crew of the ship. There are a few casualties and thirty-seven injured. Captain..." her voice halted.

"Go on," Marius ordered.

"Captain, they appear to be some Humans, Klingons, a few Vulcans and even a Cardassian." Pontmercy blinked. He looked back out at the ships, and their magnified presence on the viewscreen- nothing indicated a Federation or Alpha Quadrant design.

"Human? You're certain?"

"As certain as we can be. The medical teams have scanned these people and that is the conclusion they are drawing, but apparently there is something strange with their DNA. They require more in-depth scans when we return to the base."

"Keep on with your mission," the Captain ordered, returning his focus to the task at hand. Search the other ships and bring back the survivors.

"Aye sir."

Over an hour passed and the results were strange. There were no signs of any hostile presence on the five ships, and they all carried various races from the Alpha Quadrant amongst their crew. He ordered them back to the Obsidian, and alerted the Medical teams to be on alert.

They needed answers.
