Mission: A New Beginning
Location: Obsidian Station
Timeline: current

Being the President of the United Federation of Planets was a very hard and complex job, even more so given the way things were. The red of the Ocampa planet outside the windows was still as beautiful as it had been the first time they'd seen it. T'Kes wasn't in the habit of making trips up to the operations platform but reports about what could only be described as "dead" vessels turning up out of nowhere both intrigued and alarmed her, but as she kept off to the side of the operations centre she had to smile, there was no panic in the air as the crew went about their jobs, there was a serene calm. T'Kes could remember her own time serving within the Romulan military it had never been this calm with a potential threat at the door and she'd seen a fair few of those. "No such thing as the unknown." she muttered under her breath as she watched the ships on the viewscreen. That was it wasn't it? The Romulans, the Cardassians, the Klingons they had fleets but they were without question military in nature. Starfleet wasn't a military it was a space exploration outfit it was right there in the mission statement 'seek out new life and new civilisations' and perhaps being out here in the Delta Quadrant they could reclaim what made Starfleet Starfleet and what made the Federation the Federation.

Truth be told the former science officer in T'Kes was looking at the ships and asking all the questions - how did those ships get there? Who do they belong to? What are they like? All the scientific questions were clicking through her head and before she knew it she had the same gleeful smile on her face that a few of the science and engineering officers did, she even found herself participating in a few conversations, something perhaps as surprising to the crew as it was to T'Kes herself. In truth though this was what was special about Starfleet it had that infectious drive for discovery that nothing else did. It was refreshing and welcome to hear all the theories coming out about those ships, it made a good change of pace from looking over their shoulders, perhaps this was what they needed to get back into the swing of things.
