Mission: Out from the Ashes
ON:
Master Chief Minewarfare Specialist K'Ral De Bruinhiena, Senior Chief Warp Specialist Trads Woraro, and Chief Information Systems Specialist Erik Anderson made their way out of the turbolift and into Main Engineering. Which looked exactly how the trio figured it would. The Junior Officers and various Enlisted and Non-Coms were all at their different stations monitoring the warp core and the numerous subsystems that all fed into the ship's primary source of power. Their eyes wandered about, trying to find their primary target, Lieutenant Chambers, which didn't take long.
The Hienian, the Bolian, and the Human made a b-line for the Chief Engineer, the three of them hoping that the suggestion Chief Electronics Technician Williamson had casually made to two of them would work.
"Sir," the Master Chief nodded his head as the trio of Senior NCO's approached.
Chambers looked up from his station. "Officers." He acknowledged them with a salute. "What can I do for you?"
The trio looked at one another before just rolling with it as the Master Chief spoke up. "Sir, Chief Anderson's been having issues with the internal coms system," he began before the CPO continued. "Seems like the computer isn't wanting to take the latest update, and it's the fourth time it hasn't accepted. Chief Williamson suggested we do a hard reset, but we'd need your permission."
Chambers frowned. Starfleet computer systems were hardwired with security protocols built into the hardware as a redundancy, but technicians were informed of that when training and they usually posed no problems. "I see. Keep me updated on the progress, and I want Chief Williamson to sign off on the request."
The three of them exchanged glances. That had gone better than they thought, there was just a minor technicality. “Thank you, sir. We’ll get right in it,” the Senior and junior Chiefs nodded their heads, shooting the Master Chief a small look that the Hienian waved a hand to. Once Woraro and Anderson were out of ear shot, the Master Chief turned his attention back to Lieutenant Chambers.
“Thank you, sir. Was hoping we wouldn’t have to run that plan all the way to the Captain. He’s apparently working off really old info because of that update issue,” K’Ral said. “There’s just one small problem.”
Chambers looked at him and quirked an eyebrow. "My best friend was a Chief Intel officer before he was killed in the attacks, and from talking to him and helping with his cases. I had a feeling there was something more to this. Let's get into it."
The Hienien let out a small chuckle. "It's nothing like that, sir. Senior Chief Woraro is the one who'd actually do the sign off since he's the senior NCO in Engineering. It's nothing major." He replied, ears twitching. "Yeah, we lost a lot of good people on this ship during the attacks. Last Chief Engineer was a smart kid. Butted heads with Senior Chief a few times cause of his grades at the Academy. He'd just gotten his promotion to JG, started listening to Senior Chief, and was named Chief Engineer when the whole thing kicked off."
"Just saying that I'm not just a pretty face around the warp core. I've done a turn or two myself even though I haven't logged 20 years in the 'Fleet". Chambers smiled and continued to work. "You know, we need to focus on the mission."
K’Ral nodded his head. “From my experience, it’s not the time you put in, but the work you put in.” He replied with a chuckle. “But thank you for approving the reset, sir. Hopefully, it’ll get everything sorted out.”
