Mission: Obsidian

ON:

“You ready to work like a dog.” Jordan said to Mike with a grin. “Even though we hold the rank, Jude is calling the shots on the shields and weapons, since it’s his department.” Mike was a valuable asset with his operations training as well as some engineering. Jordan knew Chambers already had his hands full.

"Yeah tell me about it. I still have a million things to do plus finishing the researching. Thankfully I ordered everything I needed to get ordered so it's just a waiting game for parts. Some of the replicated materails won't do, so we have to wait for the parts." Mike said.

“So what you are telling me is I took you away from your work to help us.” Jordan said with a grin. “I’d say I was sorry but shields and weapons are Pontmercy’s priority. We won’t have them up for about ten days due to parts Jude ordered high priority but we can get it all set otherwise.”

"Nah it's all good. Most of the things I assigned out to people to do. I just have to check and make sure everything is running right and check on engineering to see how he is doing. This funny enough, is a welcomed break." Mike said.

Jude’s a good kid.” Jordan said. “He works hard and stands up for himself. He can be a bit blunt at times but honestly he is a much better security chief than I ever was.” He grinned then. “He is missing my flair.” His eyes lit up. “We need to get him and Paul together and teach them how to have fun.”

"I can only imagine what would come from that. " Mike said. "Paul is a good guy., I can't believe I've known him so long. Longer than you and that is saying something."

“Yeah.” Jordan said in agreement. “We better not corrupt them or your uncle and Olvera will hunt us down.” They turned a corridor. “There he is!”

Jude frowned at Jordan. “I said 8:00. We have a lot to do today. Are you going to take this seriously!” He looked from one of them to the other.

Mike hid a grin. "Hold your horses my man. We are ready and willing. Let's go do some work."

Jude rolled his eyes. “I’m glad you are so enthusiastic.” He led the way to where he was working. “Look at this mess!” There were parts all over the place. “I need you to make sense of this.”

"Sense of the parts all over? Well first the gihib is supposed to go to the left of where it is. And that red thing should go up like four spots." Mike said.

“How about we sort this into piles first.” Jordan suggested. “And see if any of it is even salvageable. It looks like a pile of garbage to me.”

“Once we know what we need.” Jude continued. “I am going to need you to rush it, Commander.”

Jordan shook his head. “That’s weird jsut call me Jordan.” He was family after all.” He looked to Mike. “Ready?”

Mike nodded as he started to go through the pile. "Jordan... why do you think my uncle would have changed all that information?"

“There could be several reasons.” Jordan said. “He knew we were being sent here and you would follow the clues. If he is under orders not to talk then technically he didn’t tell us.”

"I guess. Sometimes the more I learn about him and what he does, the more I understand why my mother refused to join the fleet." He said with a grin. "Her instincts were always right. This would't have been for her. But she was stuck as a civilian with my father. So that in itself was work." Mike looked at his pile. "This repair is going to take forever."

“Mike.” Jordan said quietly. “When you work for intelligence there is a lot of things you can never say. You have to bury it deep within you and never talk about it, even in dark corners where no one can see you.” He paused. “Your uncle is a good man to work for and he takes seriously every person he works for.”

"Yes, I don't know intelligence but he is a good man. There is always a reason behind things. I have to think of it that way." Mike replied.

"I just don't want you thinking he is hiding things from you is all." Jordan murmured. "There are things in this universe that are better left in the dark or off in someone's mind tucked away where no one needs to know about them. It makes this universe safer for all of us."

"Right now." Jude said impatiently. "Can we concentrate more on the station we are living on. We can go and fight the dark demons another day."

"Yes Yes. I'm working - see the pile getting smaller and lights flashing? A good Officer can multitask." Mike said grinning.

“Damn Jude.” Jordan laughed. “You take this job way too seriously. You need to lighten up some.”

“It’s my head on the chopping block not yours.” Jude growled. He turned and walked over to another area not saying a word.

“He’s been through some stuff.” Jordan said to Mike. “He hates to fail in any way. I think he needs some time on the holodeck punching something.”

"As long as it's not my face, I'm fine with it. But I get his concern. I went through reports and this is the main priority right now. With Shields and Weapons up we will no longer be defenseless. And with Chambers working on Engines we can cross off the priority systems." Mike said.

Jordan nodded. “Look at us doing the job and we haven’t even caused any trouble.” He took a deep breath. “Please, Mike, tell me we haven’t grown up and are going to be boring!”

"Nah, we work when we need to, and hang out the rest of the time. Definately will never grow up." Mike said

“I hope not!” Jordan grinned. “Imagine we’d be like the boring old farts. Who wants that in their life!”

"Not I." Mike looked around. "Ok let's get this finished and then we will hit 10 forward."

They fell silent and went to work, looking forward to the evening.
