Mission: Obsidian
ON:
Chief De Bruinhien flicked an ear after getting out of the meeting with Commander Haines. "That went... rather well," the hienina commented, taking a quick look at his pad to do a stealthy message check. There was a message from Senior Chief Murphy. Apparently, he was chomping at the bit to get the two industrial replicators they'd relocated onto the starship up and running.
"Murphy's apparently had the parts replicated already, was just waiting for the ink." K'Ral snickered, lips curling up to show off a fan filled grin as he turned to look over at the human.
“That is fine.” Jordan nodded. “Make certain you notify Chambers you are handling that so he can cross it off his list. Most of our repairs cannot be made with replicated parts. They don’t stand up in the long run like the ones we get from home.”
"Well, sir, that's if you're not using the industrial replicator," K'Ral pointed out. "Most parts, even for starships are built with industrial ones. The ones in the crew quarters and the mess are the commercial ones. They're not really built for making anything that can stand a lot of wear and tear." He added as they continued to walk down the hall. "I'm sure Senior Chief Toraro will be talking things over with the LT and figuring everything out. I don't actually have any command authority outside of helping deal with paperwork or disciplinary stuff."
“I understand what you are saying.” Jordan returned. “When it comes to the shields and weapons we cannot use replicated parts. We have to order them and wait. Rules are the rules” He took a deep breath. “Make certain he does, David is a great engineer, we do not want him offended.”
"He seems to get along with Senior Chief from what I've seen. Like two peas in a pod," the hienian chuckled. "From what I gathered, Senior Chief wants to start with power. Once he can get those up and running and off the back ups, they'll start poking around the other systems. I'm sure he'll have a wish lists to be sent back to Command." There was a slight pause as he started to think things over. "So this is going to be our perminant posting, right sir? Kinda like how the Mekong and the Defiant was pretty much perminantly posted to DS9?"
“Yes.” Jordan nodded. “We will be on the base but use the Arcadia for missions and other things.” He paused. “It will be like having the best of both worlds I think.”
K'Ral nodded his head. "If that's the case... does command have any issues with bringing family on board the station?"
“As soon as the shields are up.” Jordan replied. “And the weapons active, then you can bring your family here.” He thought for a moment. “I will ask the captai, if they stay on the ship until they are done, the captain my let them now, I will check with him.”
The Master Chief nodded his head. "I don't mind waiting for the station to be up and running before she comes over, sir. It's not like we've never gone a long time without seeing each other." The Hienian flicked an ear. "Especially when she was going through the Academy."
“I understand.” Jordan nodded. “We are a family friendly Starbase. We will have stores and shops and entertainment as well. I am certain the civilian store owners will have families as well.”
"Assuming we can get some to come here. I didn't see any civvies around when we got here. They don't usually like being on a station without power or shields." K'Ral paused for a moment, "But I wouldn't be surprised if they do start showing up. You just have to figure out a way to incentivize people coming here." The Chief thought for a moment. "That is... depending on what the mission of the place is going to be. Did you and the Captain have any kind of pow-wow about that part? Usually easier to get civvies here if we're at a trade hub or some kind of layover station and not a frontline outpost."
“Once we have shields and weapons up, we will open the station up to civilians.” Jordan said with a nod. “Since you mentioned it, I am putting you in charge of getting the information out there. I’ll let you know when we are ready to accept them but there is no reason we can’t start now.”
K'Ral raised an eyebrow in confusion. "Sir... uhm... shouldn't that be something for one of the new Ensigns?" He inquired, since typically junior officers were the ones assigned to jobs along those lines. "Not to question you, Commander, but from my experience, normally we'd have a J-O in charge of something like that with one of the senior enlisted reporting to them. Helps them develop their leadership skills."
“Then delegate the job.” Jordan replied. “I will need you to make certain they verify the business owners.” His eyes met K’Ral’s. “We are all doing things right now that aren’t what we normally do. I am running around making certain the crew is ready for those shields and weapons to come up. McMahon and the security chief are doing an excellent job on that, Chambers has a team working alongside operations to get our consoles and things all ship shape.” He went on and finished the meeting and they both headed on their way.
