Mission: Obsidian
ON:
Jordan walked through the base watching as crew were busy at work. It was a slow progress, he had an estimate of ten days for the shields. Marius wasn’t happy but he knew they were doing other best work.
Walking into engineering he didn’t have to look for David he could hear him yelling, he grinned when he saw it wasn’t at his crew but something he was working on. He stopped beside him and waited for him to finish,
David threw the microwelder on the bench and swore by all that was holy.....
"Oh, Sorry, Commander. Didn't see you there. That damned casing on the R-35 shield modulation bypass won't crack open. I'm going to have to replicate some good ol' goose-grease, I think. What brings you down? Coffee and brandy?"
"That sounds really good." Jordan nodded. "I came to talk to you about some parts I placed an order for." He waited until David handed him a glass. "The shields will be waiting for them. The soonest we can get them is ten days. Jude will not settle for replicated parts and he said you won't like it either. When it comes to the shields it needs to be the real deal."
David nodded. "He's right about that. These damn casings won't crack. I need the whole shot to get the calibrations right. The EPS shunts won't connect correctly either. "
“Is there anything I can do to help you out?” Jordan asked. “Jude fired me from helping him but he kept Mike. He thinks I tend to be a little lazy.” He grinned then.
"Yeah. These shunts are a bitch. I'm trying to pop the casings off of them so we can recycle them. I'm down to throwing them in the replicators to make them chum."
“Did you ever think we'd be back here?” Jordan asked him. “Where we belong. This is right, it feels like home.” They sat and talked for a long time like friends who had never been parted.
