Mission: Obsidian

Off:

Hello all, I am starting this for Sammi. I forget when writing the mission post to include Celine, so I have added her to this mission. I do not want this to be a long dragged out jp so that everyone has time to post on their own, but I figure we have to at least have one establishing. Let's try to get this done in a day or two.

ALSO, If I have forgotten to add anyone, please do so now.

On:

Celine kissed Joel goodbye in their quarters before hoisting her bag onto her shoulder, and walking out the door. This was to be her first away mission in years, and the first as Chief Diplomatic Officer. She hoped that she would be able to offer assistance, if it was necessary. As she strode the long corridors leading to the docking bay, she wondered what they would find, and why the USS Calvary ended up on Arbazan after their battle with the Cardassians. Only time would tell, but she hoped they were still alive.

Once aboard the USS Arcadia, she walked to the bridge, and stood towards the back of the room, waiting to hear what the plan was.

V'Lar was still where she'd spent the last few hours, not to mention the entirety of the previous night, sat at the intelligence console at the back of the bridge on the Arcadia, she probably looked a little more ragged than usual, but she loved having a mystery to look into, a puzzle to solve and here she was going down the rabbit hole again. Not that she had much so far but it did bother her, the Calvary's battle had been at Corinth that was a good day at least at warp from Arbazan, so either the Calvary had significantly disabled its assailant and limped away at impulse or it had managed to get to warp in which case there were more questions - why that heading? Why not abandon ship before the crash? And that was without the bigger question of how a lone Cardassian Galor had presumably managed to inflict significant damage on a top of the line Federation starship. It didn't add up.

To most V'Lar's appearance would have been weird but Ruby was used to it, she knew her adopted mother had this drive to get answers. "Here you go" she said putting a drink in front of V'Lar before she turned to Celine "Sometimes I wonder if this is her natural state."

"Just because I'm looking at a computer screen does not mean that I can't hear you Rubes." V'Lar said "Lieutenant Quinn my adopted daughter Ruby."

"Nice to meet you, Ruby," Celine said warmly.

Mike made his way onto the ship. Many padds with him. The information he had been gathering was amazing. So many unanswered questions but they had gotten further. Hopefully this would answer some more of the why.

Jordan walked onto the ship with Jude by his side. He looked around to see who was there. There were still quite a few missing. He had expected most would beat him as he had had a little meeting with Jude before they came on board. “Where is everyone else?” He asked impatiently. If they aren’t here when it’s time to leave, they can stay behind and the Captain can deal with them."

Jude stowed his stuff and stood off to the side, just waiting patiently. He loved how theatrical Jordan could be. Most didn’t understand his uncle at all.

T'Shas walked onto the bridge and headed to the Science console, setting her bag down at her feet. She had been cleared for duty the week before.

Charlotte made her way onto the bridge, she had what the marines termed their combat uniforms on, standard practice for away missions, she'd been close enough to hear Jordan, he really hadn't changed had he? Well it'd be boring if he had completely transformed his personality. She'd brought enough stuff with her that if worst came to worst she could put up a fight but there was only one of her. She'd be relying heavily on security for backup this time... which didn't sit well with her.

Marty stepped onto the bridge and walked to the seat reserved for the counselor. “Counselor Stokes reporting, Commander,” she said with a nod at Jordan.

Celine cleared her throat.

"I know time is of the essence, but I wanted to understand a few things. I know I'm here as a Diplomat, so I'll be working with Lieutenant Stokes and try to open up communication with Arbazan leadership and try and figure out what they know. What we do know is that the Calvary was in a fight with the Cardassians...we don't know how many, how the Calvary ended up on Arbazan, and why they haven't reached out. Does anyone else have any insight?"

"Apart from it not making a blind bit of sense." V'Lar said throwing her console's display up on the viewscreen "The USS Calvary NCC - 918103, Sutherland class. Tough, decent firepower. First thing that doesn't add up is that the fight happened at Corinth which is a few days of warp away from Arbazan, additionally Arbazan isn't within the Federation's borders, it's an odd choice to run to or limp to on impulse even weirder at warp. It could be that the crew got the heck out to dodge at warp and went with the any heading approach but if the Calvary had power to warp engines it presumably still had main power functioning. The fight with the Cardassian's is either a factor or just incidental. Cardassian and Romulan tactics in this conflict have been ambush based and the Calvary was alone, but Corinth itself is a fair distance from Cardassian space and they don't have the cloaking devices that the Romulans do, so the Cardassians had to take the scenic route to get there. It's a heck of a commitment for just one ship. I thought maybe there was someone or something valuable aboard that was worth the risk but all the crew are clean and not high profile at least as far as I can see.

As the last of the away team made it to the bridge, Jordan gave the order for the Arcadia to disembark. He turned to everyone present and addressed the room.

"There are a lot of unanswered questions, and I am sure they will only grow as we get there. For now, I want to focus on the recovery of the Calvary and its crew, if possible."

"I'll reach out to the government when we get there," Celine said. "Hopefully things will go smoothly and they will be able to tell us more."

"A note of caution." Charlotte said slowly "The Calvary was found by chance, this is the equivalent of a shipwreck being discovered after however long you like. There was no distress call that went out and last contact with the ship put it at Corinth under attack. Hopefully this goes smoothly but bear in mind no distress call since the ship went off the radar and Arbazan is home to a warp capable species, there's no way the Arbazan government doesn't know that ship crashed on their planet. So either their hiding that or the crew is trying not to be found."

"Nothing here makes sense anymore. " Mike said sighing. Celine nodded in agreement.

The away team fell silent as the Arcadia traveled out in warp, wondering what they would find. Only time would tell.
