Mission: Obsidian
There was what could be described as a running joke about marines they were regarded as one of, if not the, most fashionable department in Starfleet this was on account of there being four uniforms that marines could be expected to wear - first up the dress uniform which was self explanatory and the same as any other officer in the fleet, second what they called their off duty or training uniform which basically boiled down to the clothes that they trained in day on day - this also went down as the most loose uniform code in the fleet because it could almost be anything within reason, but in general terms was usually a top and pair of shorts. Third was the combat uniform, this was what they wore when they were going into battle, it was an all black outfit made of a specialised mesh that gave resistance against particle and bladed weapons, last but by no means least was the duty uniform - this was what would be considered the standard uniform in other departments. This was also a uniform Charlotte hadn't expected to wear again but here she was wearing it, the usual trousers with a short sleeved green top and then the vest styled jacket was her preference, on practical grounds - it was far quicker to get the vest top off when needing a quick change. Truth be told the only department arguably more fashionable than the marines in this context was the diplomatic one because they got to wear all the nice, fancy and elegant stuff.
"You look worried." Hannah said standing a few feet behind Charlotte
"I am." Charlotte said "I'm about to break my golden rule through lack of no other option." there were a total of three people on base that were trained to her standard and they were herself, Joel and Yujas that meant that she had no choice other than to take her departments XO with her on this whatever you wanted to call it though treasure hunt was the closest thing that described it, she had no other personnel other than Joel in the department, which was as expected for the moment, marines were a breed of their own, which came with being one of the more specialised departments where skill set was important more than basic training. Charlotte's golden rule was that she always preferred to have either herself or her departmental XO on base just in case, but absent any other marine that wasn't happening this time.
"Anything I need to do in the meantime?" Hannah asked
"Start shopping around for the things we haven't got but we're probably going to need." Charlotte said "If Jude leaves Yujas on the base rope him in to help."
"We have the citadel but not the outer walls?" Hannah asked
"Exactly." Charlotte said she handed Hannah the PADD of things that she was after.
"Engineering's going to love the amount of work this might create." Hannah said "But getting three of those things is going to be tricky."
"Maybe but they'll be the most helpful turrets we can get." Charlotte said
"And now we're stretching the castle metaphor a little." Hannah said
"Just see if you can find the things." Charlotte said
"Ok ok." Hannah said
