Mission: Obsidian

The following is a personal log from LT(JG) V'Lar.

I've remarked in logs throughout my career, especially recently, that the job of an intelligence officer when assigned to a 'conventional' post is to be the person who can make things make sense, who can answer the questions. There's nothing more irritating to an intelligence officer than a puzzle they cannot solve, the Calvary provides the most recent example of this point. The single truth we have is that the Calvary was attacked by Cardassians at Corinth. A Federation ship coming under attack is certainly not unusual in a time of conflict however the location is, Corinth being located on the frontiers of Federation space well away from active combat zones makes sending a ship there a strange choice for the Cardassians, the risk reward ratio at first glance wouldn't add up. It very quickly becomes logical to conclude that there was someone or something on the Calvary worth taking such a risk. The discovery and subsequent recovery of the female Cardassian seemingly supports this hypothesis though the validation of the theory will be determined when we are able to talk to the Cardassian and ask the questions we need to.

While being able to answer one question is good, many others still remain such as what happened to the crew of the Calvary? How is it that the Arbazan's didn't inform the Federation that the Calvary was on their planet? And what ultimately is driving this niggling feeling that we're not going to know the shape of this jigsaw until it's too late to do much about it?
