Mission: Obsidian

V'Lar's brain was going at a rapid speed now, she had all the jigsaw pieces and had a fair idea of how most of them fitted together but still some questions remained and usually those that remained tended to go unanswered. There was just something bothering her from the interrogation, something that she was tossing up in her head. There was perhaps one person aboard who might be useful in this respect and that was the Counselor. She made her way to Marty's office and stepped inside "Got a conundrum going through my head and depending on how the pieces fit together the consequences could be quadrant shaping. Interested in helping me piece it together?" she asked

Marty had just walked into her office from bringing the Cardassian woman the items she’d asked for and after her shift on the bridge and her conversation with Celine. “Of course,” she said with a slight grin. “This wouldn’t happen to be about the Cardassian defector, would it?” She said steepling her fingers together. “It seems to be a common thread among the command staff.”

"And you don't even have to get in my head to figure that one out." V'Lar said "What do you make of our guest?"

“She definitely seemed convincing to me,” Marty said with a sigh. “What do you think?”

"I think she's a black swan." V'Lar said

“I don’t follow you,” Marty said sitting back in her chair. “A diversion?”

"A coincidence." V'Lar said "And one that everyone seems to be having an issue rationalising because they can't separate discovering her and the mission."

“So, she’s telling the truth and what ever happened to the crew is just a random occurrence which has nothing to do with her,” Marty said. “Is that what you’re saying?”

"In essence yes." V'Lar said "What happened to the Calvary isn't in line with how the Cardassians or the Romulans operate, so it makes sense for it to be this unknown factor. If it were the Cardassians or Romulans then the Calvary wouldn't have left Corinth, all the evidence says she's not involved. She's being clever with her lies as well."

“But what would she have to gain by lying to us,” Marty asked.

"That's why it's clever." V'Lar said "She doesn't benefit but she makes sure we know she's lying. Consider it, based on all the evidence we're saying that an unknown alien vessel attacked the Calvary. She when asked about it tried to incriminate the Cardassian ship that we know was at Corinth. So she's drawing our attention to the Cardassian ship."

“Yes, of course,” Marty said nodding. “But why is the question.”

"I have a theory," V'Lar said "I think ever since they pulled off their coup d'état against the civilian government that the Obsidian Order has found that the public attitude of the Cardassian people is not what it once was. I think that ship was our guests ride and if that's true then the crew more than likely knew she was going to defect... dare we say Cardassian resistance movement?"

“Possibility,” Marty said thoughtfully. “We should let the senior staff know?”

"If you think you can get them to by all means but from I see they're so busy marking territory it's ridiculous." V'Lar said

“Well nows our chance,” Marty said looking down at her padd. “We’ve been summoned to a briefing, let’s go.”

"We should be so lucky." V'Lar said

Marty grinned at V’Lar. “Last on there…” she giggled.

"I'm not giving you access to my Romulan Ale stash." V'Lar said

Marty giggled. “I’ll see you there,” she said grabbing up her padd.
