Mission: Obsidian
On:
As Marius strode across the bridge of the Arcadia towards his chair, he thought of the mission ahead. There were a lot of unknowns, but with the uncertainty came a sense of clarity. Their enemy was cunning and devious, and had the potential to truly cause damage to the Federation. It was their job to stop it. They would need to strike quickly, they would travel fist to the Romulan Neutral Zone and then go to the Maxia system directly afterwards.
Taking a seat, he waited for the others to arrive.
Joel walked into the Arcadia, ready to get this mission going. He stopped by the marine department and dropped his bag off and headed to the bridge. As he walked on, he saw rhe captain and headed over. “Captain.” He said as he respectfully stopped in front of him.
Mike and Paul walked onto the Arcadia. Each joking about the last time they went on an away mission together and Mike had to diffuse a bomb. Paul was glad his skills were flying and not diffusing anything. Both of them stopped in front of Marius. "Good morning Captain." They said almost in unison. They both laughed quietly.
Ensign Harker went onto the Arcadia. He was amazed with the ship and how it looked. This would be his first away mission with this group and he was assigned to work with the Captain. He was nervous but glad to be chosen. He would stand tall and handle the mission with pride. Before heading to the bridge, he checked into security and made sure that everything was set right and they had all the equipment and they were ready for whatever was going to happen.
V'Lar was once again sat at the Intelligence department's alcove at the back of the bridge, this was going to be an interesting ride in some respects, the Maxia system was legendary because of a certain battle there where a certain renowned Starfleet Captain had made his name. The more immediate concern for her though was the implication carried by these facilities even existing, it wasn't good.
The imposing presence that was Okan walked onto the ship carrying his own equipment and a couple of newly certified pieces of equipment, one for him and one for Joel, they were a more compact, lighter version of the phaser rifle modelled on the Jem Hadar's rifles but to Starfleet specs more of an assault weapon than the long barrel that Starfleet tended to use. "Sir" he said handing Joel his rifle.
“Thank you Sergeant Major.” Joel said with a smile. He took the rifle and looked it over. “This is new to me, I’ve never seen one before.”
"Hot out of the workshop." Okan said "They're a merger of Starfleet technology and Jem Hadar design, stun and kill settings, pulse burst fire, comes with the usual scope filters and flashlight, but lighter than the current type 3 phaser rifle, more compact than the current type 3, puts out more of a punch, more efficient power cell and has a frequency remodulation chip. Charlotte would like our opinions on how they fare in the field."
"Welcome everyone," Marius said in greeting. "We have a few more people we are waiting on, but then I want to be out of here within minutes after that. Please check in with your stations and departments to ensure that we will be able to do so, if you have not done that already."
Mike went off to the Operations Station to make sure that the ship was ready and prepared and that all departments were ready as well.
Paul logged into his flight console and prepared the ship for departure when needed.
Erin stepped off of the turbolift and onto the bridge, looking around at who was already gathered. While she had been onboard for several minutes, she had stopped into the Medical bay to see what needed to be done. Counsellor or not, she was sure she would be needed to help if things went awry. She caught Celines eye and the pair smiled at one another. She took her place at a console to the right of the bridge, and waited.
Soon after, Fara Galaway arrived. She had only been on the station for a day before receiving the news that she'd be on this away mission. She hadn't even met the chief of the Science department, but there would be time for that later. She nodded shyly at those around her, and stepped towards the Science station.
MCPI De Bruinhiena entered quietly and took a seat, nodding at Pontmercy who acknowledged his arrival.
Chambers stepped out of the turbolift and headed toward the bridge. Once there, he made his way to the Engineering station.
"Alright, now that everyone has arrived," Marius said, "we have two destinations before this mission is concluded for us. Our stop is into the Romulan Neutral Zone. I don't have to remind anyone here that it will be very dangerous, so I expect everyone's best. Helm, take us out."
Paul pushed a few buttons on his console "Aye sir. " The ship made it's way to it's destination.
"Now," Marius said, "we have no real idea of what we will be walking into. We need to ensure that the General's DNA is recovered in as quick and seamless a manner that we can. With what we do know, does anyone have ideas on how we will accomplish this?"
"Assuming the theory holds and these two facilities are one that is operated by the Tal'Shiar and the other by whatever passes for the Obsidian Order then they're quite likely operating to a high degree of secrecy." V'Lar said "I would expect them to be small sized facilities. If we can enter the system without tripping their sensors then we stand a chance of being able to beam down without setting off their defences."
"Why beam down?" Okan asked "Why not bombard it with fire from orbit?"
"While that would solve the immediate DNA issue in that it likely destroys the samples, the only way we deal with this completely is if we can get it back, that means recovering samples and ideally a list of who those samples belong to." V'Lar said.
They discussed this back and forth for a few minutes, until Marius was satisfied that they had a few workable plans. It would take some time to arrive at the Neutral Zone, he only hoped they would find the samples quickly...otherwise the odds of their survival dwindled rapidly.
