Mission: Secrets

On:

Tom had been running on fumes these last few days. Between trying to get his team ready and getting information on locating the Synthulans, he had met with crew members to discuss next steps. He was tired but this wasn't time to rest. This was time to find his best friend. And anything he could do, he was going to do.

Tom went and searched for Lt Cruz. Charlotte had given him her name so that they could potentially work together to get the sensor calibrated. He had the ideas, she had the know how.

Arriving in the science area he was told that Lt. Cruz was unavailable, so he got the name of her assistant, Ensign Galaway. He located her and found her approaching.

"Excuse me Ensign Galaway, I'm Doctor Ryan. I was given your information as the Assistant Science chief since your chief is not available. I was wondering if you could help me out with some tasks to help locate Admiral Bradley." Tom said. Fara was surprised, but smiled slightly and nodded.

"Of course, Doctor. What can I do for you?"

"I've been trying to work on an idea to figure out how we can pinpoint finding the admiral. Using the data we have here already, we should be able to see if there is any residual quantum resonance that might match the last known location of the Synthulan ship. Using that, we might be able ot get a trace signal. The ability the Synthulans have to travel between dimensions should leave a trail of disruptions in subspace. If we use this information, we might be able to use one of the anomaly to locate the Admiral. But I need to recalibrate Starfleet’s sensors to lock onto the nanites’ resonance. If we can amplify the signal, we might be able to pinpoint his location, even if he’s in another dimension" Tom said. "I spoke to Lt Thrace who said that we might need to make modifications to a subspace communications buoy. This is a bit beyond my area and she suggested I speak to you."

"Oh, sure," Fara said. "As long as you have the data, I can definitely do that." She turned, and motioned for the doctor to follow her. She sat quickly in front of a terminal and pulled up a sequence. "Can you show me what you have?"

Tom gave her the chip he had with the data. "If you look here, when the Admiral was in sickbay, they had taken scans of the tech and nanites that the Admiral was infected with. I caught traces of a slight 'ping' shall we say. I think we can use that to find him." Fara took the padd, and set it on the desk in front of her. Glancing at the information, she began to enter the data, cross referencing what they knew and letting the computer create an algorithm to figure out the rest. Finally, she looked up.

"This is going to take a little while, but we should have what we need when it's done."

Tom exhaled a sigh of relief. “Thank you. I’m hoping to be able to give Dakota… Admiral Olvera some good news. I think we need some at this point “ Galaway nodded.

"I haven't been here long, but from what I can tell this crew seems to be very close. It makes this all the more shocking for them, I'm sure. This war has been ugly, but it just makes me remember that there is more out there than just the Romulans and Cardassians."

“I have personally known Admiral Bradley since we were in the academy. I even got the joy of you can call it that of being his personal physician and godfather to his daughter which is a joy. I’m learning the same about this crew. It’s making me think I may ask to transfer my team and research here.” Tom said.

"Well they definitely have the space," Galaway said with a small smile. "I hope that we get him back safely," she offered kindly. "I know that we are all doing everything we possibly can."

Tom nodded. “Yes it’s a very good group. You guys are doing a lot. I’m glad that after everything that happened with these Synthulans that we did all this research. There is so much more to learn about them as it seems they aren’t going anywhere. I can only imagine what else is out there we haven’t found.”

"Honestly I'm surprised it was kept so secretive and not added to the database," the Science Officer admitted. "I understand that they were dangerous and the original mission here was secretive, but if we had had that information we may be further along at this point."

Tom shrugged. "All I know is we don't know as much as I wish we did. The first encounter with them was a doozy. I wasn't around for that or at least not here but I know the Admiral was. And I know I was brought in to research shortly thereafter. I think they initially thought they were gone. But based on information I've been gathering, it seems they were just gathering information like we were."

Fara frowned. She knew that Admiral Bradley was Intelligence and so was used to playing things quiet and secretive, but it was her opinion that most secrets tended to cause more damage the longer they were held, and in the Admiral's case it certainly seemed true.

"Well I'm glad you're here," she said honestly. "Any knowledge you hold on these...Synthulans, is going to be helpful. I'm assuming you will be joining the rescue mission?"

"Yes, I managed to get on Lt Thrace's good side and insisted nicely that I be allowed to attend, if not just for my knowledge because I am Chri... Admiral Bradley's personal physician and can help that way as well." Fara's eyes flickered for a moment, and then she nodded.

"Having someone there who is intimately familiar with his medical history will be helpful when he is rescued I am sure," she said positively. "I hope you all leave soon." A beeping from her console grabbed her focus. She pressed a few buttons, her hands showing her familiarity and skill with what she was doing. Her mouth was pressed into a thin line of concentration. "Okay," she said after a moment. "I have finished modifying a Subspace communications buoy, now give me a second to recalibrate our sensors." She stopped speaking, opening a new window and entering commands. As an Ensign she didn't do a lot of work like this, but she had had extensive training as a Science Officer. Without saying anything, she picked up the padd that Doctor Ryan had brought in with her left hand, and began typing in the data she saw.

Tom watched as Fara's fingers moved across trhe console. "I am extremely in awe of your skills right now."

"It's not a big deal," Galaway admitted humbly. "I'm good with numbers," she said, typing in the last data string. She pressed enter, and watched the computer go to work. "If I did my job right, and there's anything out there, the buoy should start to return some data within a few seconds." As if waiting for her response, the computer began chiming. She glanced the information before looking at Doctor Ryan with a smile. "And that, Doctor, is an extremely faint residual of quantum resonance."

"And that... is where we want to go. And if I'm right, which I bet I am, that is where we will find Admiral Bradley. Let's go, after all the work you just did, you should be around when I present this to everyone." Tom said smiling.

"Oh! Are you sure Doctor? I'm an Ensign, I'm not Senior Staff."

"In this instance, we need all the help we can get. And if they get mad, I got your back. You've helped me more than you know finding this - and you deserve the credit. Plus if I stay on the station, I may have some more sciencey things for you." he said laughing.

"Well that's me, Doctor. Assistant Chief Sciencey officer," Fara laughed, and stood. "Ok then, let's go!"

Tom nodded, finally with good news they made their way to find the Captain so they could give him the information and get going.
