"You have got to be..." Maddy said when Hannah brought her to the greenhouse and she set eyes on the Tardigrade creature that was nibbling on the plant life.
"I know isn't she great?" Hannah said, Maddy nodded slowly she was putting this down to Hannah's inner science nerd bubbling up to the surface.
"Have you got a means of communicating with her?" Maddy asked
"Kind of." Hannah said, at this point the Tardigrade spotted them and bounded up to Hannah and began nuzzling her leg.
"I'd say that's she's happy to see you." Maddy said "Very much like pets."
"I think so." Hannah said "I just hope she can understand what we're going to say."
"Fingers crossed." Maddy said

Hannah crouched down in front of the Tardigrade and smiled "I don't know if you can understand me, but I sure hope you can." she said slowly "But we need your help... this is my friend Maddy she'd like to take a sample of your DNA." she had no way of knowing whether she'd been understood or whether the creature would help them, after all this wasn't the first time that this species of creature had been in this position, the only difference this time was that the human side of the equation had a lot more knowledge than they previously had. Then the Tardigrade raised it's head ever so slightly and exposed it's more fleshy neck, Maddy took that as her cue and using a hypospray took the sample that they needed, the glow of fluorescent blue liquid in the tube was quite something.

"I'll get this to Ewan." Maddy said "And everything now rides on whether he knows what he's been doing with his pet project."
"We're about to find out." Hannah said
