Mission: Obsidian
"Ok then." V'Lar said within minutes of the meeting finishing as her team walked into their department on the Arcadia "Let's start asking questions. Timor I want the official report on the station, Dot, Dash tap into the station's computer do a sweep for viruses and if its clean access it."
"What are you thinking?" Timor asked
"I think there's more than one thing at play here." V'Lar said "Any competent engineer can give an accurate estimate on times to arm and move that station out there, that includes Starfleet Command and I'm not about to accept that Starfleet knowingly posts a science vessel to the front lines of a combat zone and then assigns it to a station that it knows isn't in operational condition. I'll buy that the nature of the war, the fact that the Romulans and Cardassians tactic of choice is hitting Federation drydocks, shipyards and so on means that repurposing is faster than rebuilding to some extent, but beyond that no."
"Doesn't sound like a reason to hide anything." Freya said "So what aren't we being told?"
"Fifteen minute rule, you all know the drill." V'Lar said "Freya we'll attack the other end of the problem, if there's a secret here someone obviously wants it kept and sending us here is a pretty dumb way of achieving that, so who wants it exposed?"
The fifteen minute rule was what V'Lar ran her team on, take a look at the situation for fifteen minutes, gather what information you could and then figure out further steps. When they reconvened around the central table in the department space Timor put a PADD on the table "As per Starfleet procedure the inquiry report on the loss of Starbase eleven." he said "In 2330, eight years ago it was heavily damaged following a battle with Orion Pirates. The Captain fended off the attack but the base was heavily damaged as we know and abandon starbase was ordered."
"Ok so let's treat that as truth." V'Lar said "Anything suspicious on any of the former crew?"
"Still compiling the list." Timor said
"You two?" V'Lar asked looking at the Bynars
"No sign of any viruses." Dot said "In coordination with engineering..."
"...We downloaded the base's data." Dash finished
"Anything in there?" Freya asked
"There are a total of five discrepancies." Dot said
"Elaborate." V'Lar said
"According to official record the base was abandoned in 2330." Dash said "Emergency power was still active, internal sensor logs register a series of what look like meetings aboard the base over the last six months."
"Can you get enough off of the emergency security systems to model them on the holodeck?" V'Lar asked
"We can try." Dot said
"Freya?" V'Lar asked
"I think this is a case of unintended consequence." Freya said sliding a PADD onto the table "That's where the orders came from."
V'Lar took one look at the PADD and sighed "Left hand and right hand, same old story." she said "Get me that holodeck model and continue to look into the former base crew."
