Mission: Obsidian

The following is a personal log from CAPT Marius Pontmercy.

Personal Log, Captain Marius G. Pontmercy

As I sit here in my ready room aboard the battered Starbase Obsidian, I find myself reflecting on the journey that brought us all here. It's been eight years since the base suffered its devastating blow, and Starfleet entrusted me and my crew with the task of resurrecting it from the ruins and using it in defiance of the Romulans and Cardassians.

As I walk through the base during the day, I observe the weary yet resolute faces of my team bathed in the soft glow of the emergency lights, I can't help but feel a surge of pride. Despite the weariness that clings to our bones and the weight of the immense task ahead, their dedication remains unwavering. I am proud of their resolve.

Our arrival at Starbase Obsidian was met with a mixture of trepidation and hope. Although no one here now was on the Obsidian when it fell, the halls are still filled with the memories of the catastrophe that befell this place- they linger in the air like a heavy fog, but so too do the promise of renewal, revival, and resolve. We are determined to breathe life back into these desolate halls, to reclaim what had been lost. It will also help when we finally get the shields up and running- I will breathe a little easier.

The days since our arrival have been a blur of activity, filled with tireless efforts to assess the damage and devise a plan for restoration. The task before us is formidable, but I have every confidence in the abilities of my crew. They are the embodiment of resilience, their spirits unbroken despite the challenges that lay ahead.

As I find myself surrounded by the remnants of destruction, the gravity of this responsibility sits heavy on my shoulders, the worry for my crew, their safety, and what is laying out there in wait. It feels like an uphill battle, a constant fight against the odds. However, with each day that slips by, we draw nearer to our objective, propelled forward by a collective resolve and unwavering determination.

As exhaustion hangs heavy in the air, a constant reminder of our struggle to reclaim what was lost, there's an unwavering determination coursing through our veins. Despite our weariness, there's a steadfast belief that we will conquer the challenges stacked against us. We're not simply repairing a base; we're forging a formidable legacy, one that exemplifies the resilience of the Federation.

I'm filled with profound gratitude when I think of the people who sacrifice daily while they are here. Through the darkest of times, they've remained steadfast, their unwavering commitment a testament to our shared purpose. Together, we are a force to be reckoned with, united by a bond that transcends mere duty—it's a camaraderie born of shared trials and triumphs.

I am a better Captain because of them.
