Mission: Obsidian

On:

Jordan walked into sickbay and looked around. He wasn't real happy with having to come to the ship for his physical, he had a lot going on but he had to set the example so here he was, facing the unnecessary evil.

“Is there a doctor in the house?” Jordan said with a grin. He wanted to get this over with. Physicals painful just a necessary evil.

Amanda looked up from her work. “There are even three.” She replied. “You must be here for your physical.” She said. “If you have specific complaints that need to be signed off by me, you’ll have to wait a couple of minutes. If you just need a standard physical, doctors Katagh and Ensign Mahoney are available. I have a meeting with command McMahon first. ”

Standard physical." Jordan said. "I have no issues, I am allergic to nothing and I am in fine health." He looked over at the others. "Which one of you wants to get this over with?"

“I can take you.” Katagh turned around and faced the man. Have a seat. Let’s get some basic questions out of the way first.” He motioned for Haines to have a seat on the bio bed. “Have you had complaints since your past physical?”

“No complaints.” Jordan replied. “I have to have my vision cleared in my right eye.” He had gotten some particles in that eye during the Zaj war and for a few days hadn’t been able to see. “It is required to have it checked at each physical.”

"I see, has it been giving you any problems?" Katagh scanned the eye with his medical tricorder. It showed a some retinal damage, but nothing major. Nothing that should impact vision.

"It has not but I am told that I need to have it checked to make certain there is not any more damage." Jordan explained. "I am trying to follow the rules even if I think some of them make no sense." He grinned then. "How long have you been a doctor?"

"I have been a doctor for close to 55 years. Go forward, With a long career in Starfleet." Usually Katagh got that question for one of two reasons. The first was making genuine small talk or genuine interest. The second was to find out if this 8ft Klingon was at risk of turning around, grabbing his Mak'leth and sliding their throaths. Something Amanda always found very funny, because aside from his hight and wide build there was absolutely nothing remotely threatning about this man. Looking at Haines, Katagh couldn't quite figure out yet which side his question fell on. "I have seen war and peace in that time. I prefer war." Jordan gave the man a wondering look. "Blown up limbs, internal injuries, just so much delightful carnage for us doctors to take care of" he said, jokingly.

“I bet you get a lot of the same crap I do.” Jordan replied with a wide grin. “I wasn’t the model Starfleet officer, I once turned against the crew.” He paused. “Most people see what they want to see and don’t bother to get it know me. I am loyal to those who deserve it and I sense you are as well.”

“When humans meet me, I get one of two reactions. They either question if I’m actually a doctor, and are afraid I might rip their heads off. Specially now that I’m retired from Starfleet and work as a civilian. Or they question why I even became a physician, thinking all Klingons are good for is to be a warrior.” Katagh let out a big sigh. “The truth is, I could never make it in the Klingon defense forces. I loved most of my life among Humans, I’m even dating one. I might look imposing, but I’m a softy at heart. Or so Amanda keeps telling me.” The man let of a small smirk. “But when I like you, you have a friend for life who will eat the hearts of anyone who crosses you. And you, commander, I like.” Giving him a firm but friendly pat on the shoulder.

Jordan smiled at him. He felt like the two of them might become good friends, given time. “It seems that we think alike in some things. Marriage however is something I could never handle.”

“When I was younger I vowed to never marry either. Medicine was the only lover I needed, or wanted. Until I met my Amanda, lieutenant Hemsley.” Katagh seemed to glow when he mentioned her name. “The thing is, Par’Mach is a silent enemy. Invisible. You don’t see it coming. You don’t hear it coming. But when it puts its claws in you, it doesn’t let go. I could not defeat the enemy. All I could do was to let happen what was bound to happen. If that enemy comes for you, you will understand.”

“The thing is it’s not something I am afraid of.” Jordan said seriously. “I like my own company. I don’t get lonely.” He grinned then. “So I like a woman’s company, sure I do. They feel the same way I do.” Jordan hadn’t had good luck with women outside of friendship,, his mother had been a bitch who preferred him dead, the one woman he had thought himself in love with had betrayed him. He wouldn’t let it ever happen again.

The doors to sickbay chimed open and Amanda walked in. Looking at Haines and Katagh, she walked over to speak to them. "Problems, gentlemen?"

"Not at all" Haines replied. "We were just having a private conversation."

"Yes, little one. I completed the commanders physical. Nothing came up. Now we were just... talking." Katagh handed Amanda his pad with he results of the physical. "

Jordan was relieved when he was cleared. He might contact Katagh and see if he wanted to meet up sometime for a drink. He thought for medical, he was okay.
