Mission: Obsidian
Location: USS Arcadia

If there was one thing V'Lar liked it was a good mystery, if there was another thing she liked it was when she didn't have to read too much between the lines of things. What she did know from a purely intelligence perspective was that the conflict with the Romulans and Cardassians was in truth not one the Federation was in danger of losing from a battlefield perspective after all it was more accurate to describe the conflict as a counter insurgency situation rather than a straight up fight with two governments, and that was down to there not being a recognised Romulan government, there was simply the person she called 'miss blonde and brooding' who was Empress and the Tal'Shiar. As far as the Cardassian side went Starfleet Intelligence had been caught as off guard as everyone else when this war had started, they hadn't seen dramatic increases in Cardassian ships after all Cardassia's military capability was closely monitored under the terms of the Treaty of Bajor, that this had happened screamed factional and that meant the Obsidian Order was back. The factional nature of the conflict therefore suggested numbers and resources in favour of the Federation, it also explained the Romulans tactic of choice being hit and run surprise attacks or ambushes.

However the question was always the same - was the greater threat from outside or from within? Arbazan had been a Federation member within the last fifty years and now wasn't, that smacked of something not quite being right. After all there was no value in the Federation winning a war if there wasn't a Federation to emerge at the end of it all or worse one that wasn't the Federation at all. V'Lar wouldn't be surprised if the shadowy hand of the Tal'Shiar was somewhere in that equation but that was something she'd let her team work on while she went off on a treasure hunt for the Calvary. Settling down into the intelligence alcove at the back of the Arcadia's bridge V'Lar started bringing up all the information on the Calvary, the ship, the crew, the mission and anything that Starfleet had classified, there were some advantages to being the intelligence person.
